Then a serious offense will be committed. If one says, "I have taken refuge in all the Buddhas," and if one says, "I have taken refuge in the previous form," one will commit a defeat. If one says, "Although I have taken refuge in Shakyamuni, it is as if I have taken refuge in all the Buddhas," one will commit a serious offense. If one says, "I am a non-learner," and if one prophesies a non-learning noble one, one will commit a defeat. If one says, "I do not learn worldly affairs," one will commit a serious offense. If one says, "I have nothing at all," and if one shows that one has no afflictions, one will commit a defeat. If it is not so, one will commit a serious offense. I say, "I have passed away." I say, "I am liberated." I say, "I am not feared by the world." If one speaks thinking of oneself as a noble one, one will commit a defeat. If it is otherwise, one will commit a serious offense. Write "My name is Arhat" and then say, "Who wrote this?" Or if someone asks, "Have you attained the fruit?" holding many fruits in one's hand, and saying, "They are not yet ripe," one will commit a serious offense. If one says, "I have declined," or says, "I have entered the stream," or says, "Once-returner," or says, "Non-returner," or says, "I am not an Arhat," one will commit a serious offense. If one perceives a non-human as a human and lies, or perceives a human as a non-human and speaks, or perceives a non-human as a non-human and speaks, one will commit a serious offense. If a monk, through a messenger, speaks of a Dharma that is superior to humans, or through a letter, or through a gesture, or from one to another, speaks of a Dharma that is superior to humans, one will commit a serious offense. Similarly, to the insane, the mentally disturbed, those afflicted by illness, the deaf and dumb, and the foolish, if a monk speaks of a Dharma that is superior to humans, one will commit a serious offense. Similarly, to the drunk, those in other states of existence, those who perceive a non-secluded place as a secluded place, or those who say they are invisible through medicine and mantras, or using the language of the noble ones to the border people, or using the language of the border people to the noble ones, in short, if one speaks of a Dharma that is superior to humans, all will commit a serious offense. Just as a monk would commit a defeat, so too, learning

So be it. Bhikshunis will also be judged to have committed a pārājika offense. Bhikshunis, śrāmaṇerikās, and śrāmaṇeras will commit a duşkṛta offense. There is no transgression for beginners, the insane, those with disturbed minds, and those afflicted by illness. The origin of the story is in the vast city. The individuals are five hundred fishermen. The offense is verbal. The defilement is the pursuit of gain and honor. The sign is a pārājika offense. The limbs are of seven kinds: claiming to have superior qualities, being aware of it, recognizing the other person as not being an Arya but a common person, uttering those words, understanding the meaning of the other person, and concealing one's knowledge. These are the unforgettable words of the four pārājika offenses. The second recitation of the Prātimokṣa Sūtra is complete. Beginning with the third recitation of the Prātimokṣa Sūtra, the contents called "Sūtra" and so forth are spoken. The origin of the story is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Śrāvastī in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍada's Park. At that time, the venerable Udayin, by nature, no matter which city or town he resided in, would rise early in the morning, sweep the monastery, dust it, apply incense, and then go outside the monastery, wash his hands and feet, clean his teeth. Then, he would put on his robes, carry his alms bowl, and enter the city or town to beg for alms. When he was begging for alms in this way, he did not guard his body, did not restrain his senses, and did not maintain mindfulness. After returning from begging for alms, he would do the work of preparing food, and when he entered into meditation, he saw beautiful women walking around, and his mind became filled with desire and lust. He used his own limb suitable for sexual activity, held it with both hands, and engaged in activity, and then ejaculated. After that, some wandering monks went to the place where the venerable Udayin was, and asked: Venerable, are you enduring, comfortable, and at ease? Are you dwelling in the experience of happiness? Are you not troubled by begging for alms? The venerable one replied: I am not troubled by begging for alms, and I am comfortable and dwelling in the experience of happiness. The monks asked: Venerable, how are you comfortable and dwelling in the experience of happiness? I
