A monk should ask a doctor before giving medicinal gruel to a patient. If there is no doctor, ask a sick child or an old person. If medicine is given without asking, it will lead to death, therefore, a precept of learning was established in the Vinaya. This story took place in Shravasti. The son of the Venerable Maudgalyayana ordained seventeen people including Upali. Whichever of these seventeen was on duty, all would do it together. Once, one person was in charge of managing the monastery and was on duty to make offerings for the season. He decorated the monastery with ornaments and lit lamps. The companions thought that one person was doing his best, so no one went to see him. The next day, they saw the person in charge of the monastery sitting there angrily. Some grabbed his feet, some grabbed his hands, and asked him to forgive them, but he refused. One person did gaga tshil (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), and he laughed. Everyone said that this method would work, so they all did it. As a result, he was blown over by the wind and died. This matter was reported to the Buddha, and the Buddha said: From now on, do not do gaga tshil (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思) to others. Therefore, a precept of learning was established in the Vinaya. This story also took place in Shravasti. At that time, a householder built a monastery in the place of the monastery for the Sangha. A bhikkhuni was staying there for the summer retreat. Someone reported to the Buddha that thieves were robbing the place. The Buddha said: From now on, if thieves come to steal, take the instrument Ghaṇṭā (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), and shout: Bring the bowl and the water strainer! Then the thieves will run away. Later, thieves came to this monastery again to steal. At that time, an elderly monk was lighting lamps, and he saw the thieves. They climbed onto the door and sat there. The monk thought that if he didn't scare them a little, the things would be stolen. So he climbed onto the door and threw the Ghaṇṭā (藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), just to scare them. As a result, the next day, one of the thieves was hit in the head and died. This matter was reported to the Buddha, and the Buddha said: Do not throw it to hit them, just scare them from a distance. Therefore, a precept of learning was established in the Vinaya. This story also took place in Shravasti. At that time, a father and son householder, previously

Having great possessions, later the possessions also diminished, relatives and friends also ran out, and the father and son both renounced and resided in the monastery. Then the monks always assigned them tasks, and out of affection, the father and son also frequented the fields and the monastery. Seeing the striking of the time-announcing wooden fish, they could not go there afterwards, and the son carried him on his back, and the father passed away. After the matter was reported, henceforth they should not be carried on the back, but should first go and receive the father's food portion, and then gather on the road, and the item of learning in the Vinaya was established. The origin of the story was in Shravasti. At that time, there were two monks named Bhrajana and Chirongpapo, who lived together very amicably. Chirongpapo fell ill and groaned and cried out all night. Bhrajana said: I will get up first and ask the doctor for medicine, you wait without eating any food. Having said that, he left. The next day, the neighbors said: Last night you were groaning and crying out, what happened? He replied: I was hungry. The neighbors gave him a lot of meat, pies and noodles, and he ate them. Later, Bhrajana came back with the medicine and said: Chirongpa, take the medicine. He said: I have already eaten, I don't want to eat it. Bhrajana said: I, as the weakened side of virtuous practice, am your friend, but you eat food that is incompatible with the disease, it is better to eat poison. Having said that, he found a piece of poison in the container and ate it, and died at that time. After the matter was reported, the Buddha taught: Henceforth, do not say things like the patient will die, and the precept was established. The origin of the story was in Shravasti. At that time, there were two monks, one whose bowl was broken and could not beg for alms, and one whose Dharma robe was tattered and could not be worn, so the venerable ones said: Without Dharma robes and bowls, one cannot practice, sew Dharma robes, and look for bowls. The two of them said: In a place called this place, there is a monk who is weakened by illness, and when he dies, it will become ours. The monks reported this matter. The Buddha taught: Do not generate a mind like a Chandala, the bowl should be mended or burned like the eyes.

The teaching states that clothes should be sewn and patched like skin. What kind of offense is it? If a bhikshu, with the intention to kill, touches a woman, man, or eunuch with one finger, even if they die as a result, it constitutes a pārājika offense. If a bhikshu gives poison to someone, or throws them off a cliff, or sends them to a place with many tigers and leopards, or sends them to a place with severe cold and wind, or uses spells and medicines, as long as they have the intention to kill, even if they eventually kill them by striking them with a pimple the size of a mustard seed, it constitutes a pārājika offense. If a bhikshu casts spells with medicine and mantras, or transforms both parties into the realm of animals, and then kills a person, it constitutes a pārājika offense. If a bhikshu thinks that someone else will kill a person, but that person dies, it constitutes a sthūlātyaya offense. If a bhikshu kills a person, it constitutes a pārājika offense. If they kill someone who is not a person, it constitutes a sthūlātyaya offense. If they hesitate, unsure whether it is a person or not, and kill them, it constitutes a pārājika offense. If one kills oneself, it constitutes a sthūlātyaya offense. Killing an arhat and killing an ordinary person, or killing an ordinary person and killing an arhat, both are the same, constituting a sthūlātyaya offense. If a person who has been killed runs away and meets a bhikshu, coming like a pursuer, if the bhikshu, with the intention to kill, points out the pursued to the pursuer, and the pursuer meets and kills that person, it constitutes a pārājika offense. Just as a bhikshu commits a pārājika offense, so too do a bhikshuni and one who has been given vows commit a pārājika offense. For a śrāmaṇera, śrāmaṇerikā, and beggar, it constitutes a duḥkṛta offense. For a householder, it constitutes a grave sin. The bhikshus dwelling on the banks of the River of Delight thought: The first offense is without fault. If the precepts are not established, and many bhikshus are driven to death by us, we will doubt what constitutes the first offense. The Blessed One declared: All the offenses committed by the bhikshus on the banks of the River of Delight are first offenses, and therefore there is no fault. The limbs are sevenfold: not a real object, and dwelling near with the intention to kill.
