If it is not done at the right time, it has already passed. There are four times when it is permissible to perform the Uposatha outside of the proper time: if circumstances such as the eight obstacles arise, there are three or a general one, that is because of circumstances. For dedication, if the time is not suitable, one should dedicate. For harmony, it is the method of reconciling disputes, or when requesting after severance. For auspiciousness, if bad omens appear, when it is not defiled. Explaining the Pratimoksha Sutra, called "Obstacles," there are five obstacles of the Sutra: from the beginning to the four Parajikas, from the beginning up to the Sanghavasesa, what is said from the beginning to the Aniyata, from the beginning to the completion of everything is an obstacle. If the Sthavira does not come out, then who comes out from below that. If it is not complete, then others continue. It is also permissible for a madman to speak, assuming a pure Sangha, saying "Who among you has faults," and so on. Having faults means not confessing offenses. Saying "Confess," some say that if one remembers immediately there, one should confess to the Sangha or to one person present. Some say that one should bless with the mind there and then confess later. Some say that reciting scriptures is blessing with the mind. Asking separately and answering "Thus it is," means that if those who have not arrived are asked separately about their situation, they repeat with faith and purity three times, just as they answered, the assembly here should also announce three times. Repeating three times is to avoid the faults of taking too long and being distracted and not hearing clearly, not too many and not too few. The words of questioning between the three times are from "Venerable ones" to "should be announced." Saying "Such a Sangha" is praising such a pure Sangha. Mentioning "knowing and deliberately" is because after asking three times in that way, confessing with faults while knowing and deliberately becomes lying, if one does not know it does not become lying. Lying is indeed speech, but because of the admonition "If there is, confess, if there is not, do not speak," therefore not speaking while having faults, one should understand with speech. Because one understands with meaning and implication, therefore that itself is lying. Saying "Interrupt" means interrupting between cause and effect, that is, interrupting the good of this life.

In the future, it will cut off the path between happy migrations and the cessation of suffering, Nirvana. The term "desiring purity" refers to desiring Nirvana, not intensely desiring it. The term "having faults" refers to not having confessed. The term "remembering and" unspoken views refers to seeing both heavy and light. If one confesses, one will be happy, and there are five things: the antidote to laziness is diligence; the antidote to committing faults is being without faults; the antidote to despising the precepts is respect; the antidote to regret is being without regret; the antidote to impurity is samadhi; and knowing reality as it is, is purity. The term "basis" refers to the Pratimoksha arising from it. The first recitation of the Pratimoksha was written merely as a reminder to not forget, starting from the recitation of the Pratimoksha Sutra. The origin of impure conduct is that for twelve years, the Shravaka monks were without faults or deficiencies in terms of discipline. When the thirteenth year arrived, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in the village of Kalandaka, a Brahmin who abandoned his country. At that time, the householder Kalandaka's son, named Good Giving, was wealthy and had great possessions, to the extent that he rivaled the wealth of Nanda. He took a wife from his own clan and enjoyed playing and having fun. Later, the householder developed great faith in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and having taken refuge, he took the vows of a monk, shaved his head and beard, and resided there. Then, at a later time, Good Giving thought: "I have left my home and become a possession of the monks, but I am still mixed up with relatives and friends, living like a former householder, which is very inappropriate." So, in order to separate from them, he took his alms bowl and robes and went on a pilgrimage. That year, there was a famine, and food was so scarce that parents would not even give food to their children. Good Giving thought: "In such a time of food scarcity, my wealthy relatives, although unable to constantly do good deeds, could at least prepare food and offerings for the Sangha for about six hours. So I came to the land of Kalandaka and stayed in a small hut in the monastery."
