The wise one is a holy person endowed with merit and wisdom, who possesses the lineage of Nirvana and is skilled in the means of attaining it. Living refers to the person who possesses the five aggregates of grasping and abides in the world. Sin refers to the mere aspiration for higher realms, because of attachment to the enjoyment of the three realms, one will never be liberated from afflictions and samsara, and this itself is sin. Complete abandonment refers to those with eyes abandoning afflictions, thereby attaining Nirvana. When the Tathagata Savior of All was alive, most practitioners thought it was enough to simply keep their vows completely, and they also ridiculed and slandered other non-Buddhist practitioners, thus wasting the meaning of being a practitioner. To counter this, the Tathagata Savior of All said: Do not slander, do not harm. (Tibetan: སྐུར་བ་མི་གདབ་གནོད་མི་བྱ།) etc., and spoke half a verse. Not slandering means that renunciants should not verbally slander non-Buddhist practitioners. Not harming means not hurting in body or thinking badly in mind; in short, not harming or hurting non-Buddhists and all beings through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. Individual liberation refers to liberation from the five realms of samsara, hence it is called liberation. What should be guarded refers to the five types of downfalls, which should be unbroken, undiminished, and indestructible, and should be strictly guarded. Knowing the measure of food also means that the practitioner of yoga should know the measure of food. If one eats too much, it will become an obstacle to diligence, and if one is too hungry, one will fall into the abyss of afflictions. Therefore, one should be diligent and energetic, with a light mind, and eat in moderation. One should dwell in a remote place, which refers to monasteries, and one should dwell in such a solitary place. In this way, practitioners should not be satisfied with vows, and it is not enough to merely keep vows, but they should also practice meditation and so on. In order to practice and contemplate, it is said, "Engage correctly in higher mind." (Tibetan: ལྷག་པའི་སེམས་ལ་ཡང་དག་འཇུག) Higher mind refers to being free from the burning of afflictions, that is, higher wisdom and higher.
