Moreover, having heard it coming from within, and seeing it placing its feet, it said, 'Venerable one, I delight in cleanliness. Why are you sitting on my bed with leftovers?' Having heard the reproach and abuse, and the reproach being reasonable, henceforth, without being told by the householder, one should not sit on the cushion. Thus, the precept was established. The reason for 'one should not sit without examining the cushion' is that when he was in ཉན (Nyan, a place in Tibet), འཆར་ཀ་ (Acharka, a person's name) would occasionally go to གཏུམ་མོ (Tummo, a person's name)'s place to teach the Dharma. Later, གཏུམ་མོ (Tummo, a person's name) gave birth to a son. In order for him to live long, she covered him with a white cloth and placed him on the ascetic's cushion. Later, འཆར་ཀ་ (Acharka, a person's name) came and sat without examining the cushion, so the child died prematurely. They were saddened and said unpleasant things. Having heard this, it was established that one should not sit on the householder's cushion without examining it. The reason for 'one should not sit pressing down with the weight of the whole body' is that after the Bhagavan attained complete enlightenment, when he was in སེར་སྐྱ (Serkya, a place in Tibet), when he was receiving alms at the place of the nun (Tsünmo Drakdzinma, a person's name), the venerable འཆར་ཀ (Acharka, a person's name) kicked གྲགས་འཛིན་མ (Drakdzinma, a person's name)'s foot as she was preparing the alms. She was displeased, and in order to prevent such things from happening in the future, གྲགས་འཛིན་མ (Drakdzinma, a person's name) covered a chair without a back with cloth and placed it there, and sent a girl to say, 'Call འཆར་བ (Acharwa, a person's name).' (Acharka, a person's name) thought, 'I have found a treasure,' and came quickly and stiffly, saying, 'What will you give me?' She said, 'Please sit on the chair, and please have a bowl of flour and yogurt.' (Acharka, a person's name) said, 'Can the chair be eaten?' (Drakdzinma, a person's name) said, 'The chair cannot be eaten.' (Acharka, a person's name) then took a bowl of flour and yogurt in his hand, thinking, 'The chair will break.' He pressed down on it with his weight and sat down heavily. Because the chair had no back, it overturned, and the bowl of flour and the bowl of yogurt were spilled on his face, and they were all displeased. They grabbed འཆར་ཀ (Acharka, a person's name)'s feet and threw him into the pond. (Acharka, a person's name) also stood up, wrung out his Dharma robes, and sat down. The monks saw this and said, 'What is the fault?' (Acharka, a person's name) said, 'I used to play a game in the past, and today I have done the same harm.' Having heard this, it was established that one should not sit pressing down with weight on the cushion in the householder's house.
