The phrase "Thus I have heard" means spoken. The phrase "Venerable one, I have now come to know" refers to the present. The phrase "How does this Dharma enter into the Sutra?" means how should this Dharma be read into the Sutra spoken by the Blessed One. The phrase "That is, that Bhikshu" refers to the Bhikshu who is dwelling there. The phrase "Venerable one, formerly dwelling here" refers to who those are. The phrase "The act of Posadha, twice or thrice" refers to the time when the Pratimoksha Sutra is sometimes taught twice or thrice. The phrase "By not knowing, one will not be liberated" means that by not knowing, one will not be liberated; because there is no liberation, one should not be ignorant. A downfall is between sentient beings and hell. Without respect, reverence, or veneration for the Dharma, having heard the Pratimoksha Sutra twice or thrice, from Parajika to the pacification of disputes, one initially hears. If one speaks thus, then one commits each and every downfall. For one who does not know the truth, there is no downfall. The origin story of not allowing needles to be made from horns and bones is that it was in Shravasti in the country of Kosala. At that time, many Bhikshus made many needles mixed with teeth and horns, and held them. All the Bhikshus did not give wages or food, and all the alms they received were used up. Because there were no provisions, they became poor. The heretics mocked, saying, "Formerly, when we had faith in the tooth-makers, we were rich; now, having faith in the Shakyaputra Shramanas, we have become poor." Having heard these words, the Buddha rebuked them, saying, "They do not know contentment, they do not know measure." Therefore, the training rule of not allowing needles to be made from horns was established. The phrase "Which Bhikshu" refers to many Bhikshus, and others similar to them. The phrase "Tooth" refers to the tooth itself. The phrase "Needle" refers to two types, those with holes and those with eyes. The phrase "Make" refers to oneself or others. The phrase "Having destroyed" means that after destroying, one initially confesses the downfall. A downfall is between sentient beings and hell. In front of whom one confesses the downfall, that person should also ask, "Did you destroy the needle or not?" If one confesses that thing without asking, then both the confessor and the listener will commit a misdeed. That downfall will also not be confessed. The origin story of not allowing sleeping on beds with short or very long legs

The incident occurred in Shravasti. At that time, a ভিক্ষু mendicant was sitting on a short-legged bed. After washing his feet, he was meditating on the bed in the shade of the porch. A snake, tormented by the heat, came near and coiled up to sleep in the water, and a ভিক্ষু, tired from the road, was resting on the bed. The bed made a cracking sound, which angered the snake, and it bit the ভিক্ষু's forehead. The ভিক্ষু died and was reborn in the Trayastrimsha heaven. After such a fault occurred, it was advised not to sleep on a short-legged bed. The group of six ভিক্ষুস made beds with twelve legs and slept on them with ladders. This was also considered a fault, so it was later stipulated that the length of the bed should not exceed one cubit. Later, because the regular visitor was tall, a backrest was set on the bed, and it was allowed for the knees and hips to touch the holes in the bed. The eight fingers of the Blessed One are the length of one cubit. It is allowed to use a bed that is one cubit long. Exceeding this length is a transgression. If one confesses after cutting it, it means cutting the long object and then confessing. Falling means falling into the three evil realms. The person before whom one confesses should ask if you cut that object or not. If he does not ask, both are at fault. That transgression cannot be confessed either. The origin of not allowing cotton to be spread on the beds of the Sangha occurred in Shravasti. After the bedding of the Sangha had been distributed, an elderly ভিক্ষু mendicant suddenly arrived that night and did not get a bed. A young attendant in the Sangha was happy and said, "Give his bed to the mendicant." That person made a joke, took out the cotton from the bed cover, spread it on the bed, and covered it with cloth. After dawn, he removed the cloth and let him sleep. The next morning, his whole body was covered with cotton, and the other ভিক্ষুস asked him, "Did you sleep in a cotton field?" The attendant said, "This is the joke I made." The ভিক্ষুস with few desires ridiculed him, saying, "Why spread cotton on the beds of the Sangha?" and said unpleasant things.
