Moreover, Sācan said, "Before it was not true." Now saying it is true is also okay, after saying this, the elder monks said, "Please speak solemnly." After this order, the elder monks spoke in detail. We admit that the slander is true, after admitting this, for the monks with shallow meaning, it was heard from slander, without the root of saṃghāvaśeṣa, it is not allowed to slander, therefore the precepts of learning were established. Also, the one named "a certain monk" is a friend and Sācan, others are also the same as this. "Hateful one" refers to one who has not abandoned hatred. "Anger" refers to dissatisfaction. "Pure monk" refers to Jābudnord, others are also the same as this. "Without root" refers to three roots, namely, without the root of seeing, the root of doubt, the root of hearing. "Saṃghāvaśeṣa of the Saṃgha" refers to any of the thirteen saṃghāvaśeṣas of the Saṃgha. "Slander" refers to defamation. "Falling" refers to the three evil destinies. "Fault" refers to as it appears from the pārājika becoming saṃghāvaśeṣa, the same applies here as well. The reason for not allowing a woman to walk with a man without a man is when it was in Śrāvastī. At that time, there was a weaver living in Rājagṛha, and he took a householder's daughter as his wife in Śrāvastī. That weaver was very irritable and always beat her, so she wanted to run away. She told an elderly neighbor, and the elderly neighbor said, "Daughter, don't run away, I will tell the weaver not to hit you." So she didn't run away at that time. Later, the weaver got drunk again, because he was an alcoholic, so he started hitting her again. That daughter ran away to Śrāvastī. The weaver also chased after her, and saw a monk walking with his daughter, thinking, "Now I am alone, they are two people, I can't catch them." So he said to the weavers from the weaver's village, "My wife has been robbed by the Śākya practitioner, please help me." Those weavers, because of their stupidity, caught the monk, beat him severely, broke his bowl and razor, tore his robes, and the monk was beaten half to death. Those weavers endured.

After requesting, the monks went to Shravasti, and the resident monks asked, "Did you come in peace?" They replied, "That's why we were beaten, called 'Deushio'." The monks ridiculed, "Why do you associate and walk with women and others?" Therefore, they reported to the Buddha and established the precepts for studying the Vinaya. "Without a man" means without another man. "Woman" means being able to tolerate India. "Entering the path" means walking. "Even going to a village" means passing from one city to another. The offense is a Patita offense for every krosa (an ancient Indian unit of length, about 500 meters). Half a krosa is a Dushkrita offense. There is no offense for sheltering and pointing the way for women. The seventy Patita offenses are completed. The origin of not allowing a guest monk to walk with thieves is that in Shravasti, a monk had stayed in Rajagriha for three months during the summer retreat. After the three months, he came out of the retreat. He had no companion to go to Shravasti because his companions had dispersed. Some people who had escaped from merchants met people going to Shravasti and entered a side road with them. The monks were exhausted by those merchants and went ahead. Those who had escaped noticed and waited ahead. When they saw the monk coming from ahead, they said, "This monk led the way before too." So they beat him severely, tore his robes, and broke his bowl. Afterwards, that monk arrived in Shravasti, and those monks asked, "Did you come in peace?" They inquired in detail about what had happened. The monks ridiculed, "Why does a guest associate with thieves?" Therefore, they reported to the Buddha, who rebuked them and established the precept of not allowing a guest to walk with thieves. "Monk" means one who has entered this Dharma, going from Rajagriha to Shravasti. "Thief" means an escaped robber. "Road" means the road to the monastery. The offense is a Patita offense for every krosa (an ancient Indian unit of length, about 500 meters). Half a krosa is a Dushkrita offense. It is not allowed to give the Bhikshu ordination to a person under twenty years of age.
