The monk should remove the ladder, or close the door, or place a guarding monk. If this is not done, before dawn, committing an offense will lead to a fall. The origin of not allowing monks to hate each other occurred in Kosambi. At that time, when the venerable seventeen groups of monks were dwelling and relying on the six groups of monks, Aṭaka assigned someone to do something, but because they couldn't do it well, they were expelled by Aṭaka. Those monks also said, 'Let's go and learn the scriptures.' And began to recite. Aṭaka said, 'Is this how you learn the scriptures?' He spoke to Nanda, and Nanda said, 'This is not good, it will harm us.' Aṭaka had Nanda get up and said, 'Those things learned before will be forgotten, and the later ones cannot be learned.' So he turned a wool sister's robe inside out and wore it, blew out the lamps of the seventeen groups of monks, and began to recite. Aṭaka, wearing the wool robe, threatened, 'Ghost! Ghost!' Those monks were afraid, stopped reciting, and sat down. Those monks told their teacher, and those monks thought it was Aṭaka, so the next night, they lit four lamps in the four corners, covered them, and waited there. Aṭaka came again and said as before, 'Ghost! Ghost!' Those monks closed the door, took out the lamps, grabbed him, and beat him. He said, 'I am Aṭaka.' Those monks said, 'Shouldn't Aṭaka be in that liberated meditation? What do you want here?' They beat him, beat him very hard. The next day, they smeared their bodies with ghee and massaged them. Other monks asked, 'Is there any offense?' He replied, 'Because I threatened like that, they beat me, beat me very hard.' The monks with few desires ridiculed, 'Why should a monk hate a monk?' Because of this reason, the precept was established. Also, which monk, that is Aṭaka, and others are like him. This monk is the one who has entered this Dharma. Hating is doing it oneself. Causing to do is causing others to do. Even if it is considered a game, the game will also lead to a fall. If a monk wants to hate, he should contemplate unpleasant images, like a Rakshasa woman, or

If, with the form of a demon, a flesh-eater, a pot-bellied ghost, or like a decaying body, or like a tiger, leopard, or wolf, with an unpleasant color and an unpleasant sound, one hates a monk or causes others to hate him, then one will fall into all offenses. If a monk, thinking to hate a monk, shows an unpleasant form, such as the form of a king, minister, householder, merchant, rich man, god, naga, or garuda, and says that they will kill you, whether the monk is frightened or not, he commits a minor offense. There is no offense in telling stories of hell beings, animals, hungry ghosts, gods, and humans. The origin of the prohibition against hiding a monk's utensils and clothes is as follows: In Nyandu Yöpa Na (Shravasti), Maudgalyayana and others renounced the world and, having received full ordination, the group of six monks resided and served and honored them. At that time, a householder invited the Buddha and other sangha members for a meal. The Buddha, the Blessed One, and his retinue went ahead to teach the Dharma in the city. The group of six and the group of seventeen followed quietly behind. On the way, they came to a pond full of water. The group of six monks, intending to play a trick on the group of seventeen, said, "O group of seventeen monks, you are very respectful to us, why don't we enter this water and see who can hold their breath the longest in the water?" The group of seventeen monks also agreed. They all entered the bottom of the water. The Venerable Ananda immediately came up, gathered all the clothes of the group of seventeen monks, hid them under a tree, and left them there. The group of six monks quickly came out of the pond and ran away. Afterwards, the group of seventeen monks came to the surface and, seeing that there was no one there, thought they had failed and entered the water again. Looking again, the group of six monks and the clothes were nowhere to be seen. The venerable ones said, "The group of six monks have played a trick on us." So they sat naked in the water. At that time, the Venerable Maudgalyayana
