I saw seventeen groups of naked people beautifully playing and dwelling in the water. King Clear King said to the queen, "Look at the beauty of your object of offering." The queen said, "It is not surprising that those young people are playing. Even though the king himself is so old, he still does not give up playing?" Then, the venerable Upali thought, "Is there anyone who does not like us playing in the water?" He entered into samadhi and observed, and saw that King Clear King did not have faith. In order to make the king happy and generate faith, he had other monks put on their Dharma robes and fly from the sky above to hover over the king. The queen saw a shadow and looked closely, and it was Upali and the other seventeen groups. The queen happily said to the king, "Look at how beautiful the object of offering of the wicked ones is." The king said, "Even if those people attain Arhatship, they do not give up playing. What is there to see?" After the queen reported this, the Blessed One rebuked them, forbade playing in the water, and established the precepts. The term "monk" refers to the seventeen groups, as well as others similar to them. "Playing in the water" refers to thinking of playing, whether it is the action of the body, the movement of the body, or the movement of the body. The downfall is the same as before. There are nine faults: being happy oneself and causing others to be happy, playing oneself and causing others to play, being satisfied oneself and causing others to be satisfied, showing off and pursuing, and allowing the body to dwell. If a monk thinks of playing in the water, takes off his clothes and enters the water, dives in the water like a bird, or swims on his back, or goes from this shore to the other shore, or beats a drum in the water, or makes frog noises in the water, etc., all of these will lead to one downfall after another. Striking with mud clods or stones in the water, or drawing pictures and playing with vegetable soup and rice soup, will result in a minor offense. Bathing and cooling off, and learning to swim, are without offense. The origin of the prohibition against sleeping in the same room with women is that in Shravasti, at that time, the venerable Unobstructed, relying on the words of the Blessed One, through effort, directly realized Arhatship.

Oṃ, Possessing Excellence! In order to repay the kindness of the Bhagavan and to serve the welfare of sentient beings, he traveled to a western village. As there was no place to sleep and to avoid the cold, it was suggested that he could sleep in the house of a rogue. The rogue brought an uninterrupted bhikṣuṇī and had her stay there for the night. The word spread everywhere that the bhikṣu was also sleeping there. That night, the rogue's mother offered food and foot-anointing oil to the bhikṣu and tempted him to engage in impure conduct, but the bhikṣu did not yield. The woman, overcome by desire, approached and seized the bhikṣu in the middle of the night. The noble one ascended into the sky and displayed miraculous transformations, which inspired faith in the woman, and she offered him food. He said, "Close the door, and I will eat in the morning." So the noble one closed the door and stayed inside. One of the woman's brothers was arguing and fighting with other neighbors, and someone said, "Your sister hasn't spared the bhikṣu either!" Both of them became angry, grabbed swords, and went to kill both the bhikṣu and their sister. Many villagers gathered to watch the spectacle, and when they opened the door, the noble Uninterrupted One was displaying miraculous transformations in the sky, which inspired faith in the people. Afterward, he returned, tamed five hundred wild men on the way, and went back to Śrāvastī. The bhikṣus asked, "Venerable one, have you returned safely?" He replied, "Serving the welfare of sentient beings is safe, but the two brothers of the rogue's mother said they killed Hadporde'u." The bhikṣus reported this, and the Buddha established a precept forbidding sleeping in the same house with a woman. Furthermore, a bhikṣu is defined as one who is uninterrupted, or similar to that. A woman is defined as a young woman who can tolerate impure sexual conduct. Together means that a bhikṣu and a woman live together. A house is defined as a place surrounded by walls and covered with a roof. A downfall is like the previous examples of burning and cooking. If a bhikṣu sleeps in the upper room, and a woman sleeps in the lower room.
