The so-called "except for dwelling" means dwelling within the boundaries of the monastery and the Sangha. The story is as follows: The mother of the enemy of beasts came to pay homage to the Blessed One, fearing that she would be robbed, so she took off her ornaments and placed them behind the door. The Venerable Ananda saw them and, fearing they would be lost, took them and reported it. Hereafter, if such things are lost and the owner does not come to claim them, they should be left for six days. If they are still unclaimed after six days, they should be placed in the Sangha's treasury. Falling means falling into the three lower realms. An offense means that if a Bhikshu takes pearls, conches, agate, gold, and silver, he will fall. Using drums, parts of musical instruments, and bows without bowstrings will result in an offense. Carrying a bow with a bowstring and arrows will also result in a fall. Taking something from a blown conch will result in a fall. Taking a statue with relics will result in a fall. If one considers a statue without relics to be real, it will result in an offense. The reason for previously not allowing bathing, but later allowing it in consideration of the hot season, is the king's account. At that time, in the land of King Gzugs can snying po, there were three hot springs. One was where the king himself bathed, the second was where the consorts bathed, and the third was where the people bathed. Then the king thought: How should I make offerings to the Sangha of the Blessed One? If I don't offer hot springs, it would be too poor. So, after listening to the Buddha's teachings, the king offered the pool where the consorts bathed to the Bhikshuni Sangha, and the pool where he bathed to the Sangha. When the king bathed, the Sangha rested; when the Sangha bathed, the king waited. Thus it was allowed. But the group of six monks thought it was a joke, and in order to delay, they took turns bathing, and when one bathed, the other helped. When the king came to bathe, they deliberately delayed, and the group of six monks delayed for a long time, became bored, and hurriedly finished bathing and left. Then they went to see the Blessed One, paid homage, and left silently. After that, the Blessed One said to Ananda: This king

Previously, they would listen to the Dharma after paying respects. Now, what fault is there in returning without listening to the Dharma? When scolded in this way, the Six Groups of monks made such jokes, and it was reported that they seemed displeased, so bathing was forbidden from then on. Later, the monks smelled the odor and ridiculed the laypeople, saying, "Can you be liberated from the odor?" Therefore, it was allowed to bathe every half month from then on. Bathing was allowed for the three hot months of spring. Later, in times of sickness, wind, and rain, bathing was allowed even when it was not the right time. Saying "bathe every half month" refers to the hot season of spring, and it was allowed after half a month. The Buddha had actually passed away. Contrary to this, saying "unless it is time" means that the time is like this, that is, two and a half months at the end of spring, and summer begins after two and a half months. Saying "the things of summer" means that from the beginning of summer to half a month, these three and a half months are the hottest time. Saying "the remaining time of sickness" means that if a monk is sick and cannot live without bathing. Saying "the time of work" refers to the work of the Sangha or the stupa, and bathing is allowed after doing work such as sweeping and making mandalas. Saying "the time of the road" refers to returning from about half a yojana or one yojana. Saying "the time of wind" means that even if the wind blows up the hem of the monastic robe, or even if one or two drops of rain fall on the body, it is acceptable. Saying "it is time" refers to the Dharma that corresponds to this. If a monk bathes, thinking that it is time, and does not think of bathing in his mind, he commits a downfall. If a monk bathes in river water, flowing water, or any pond, it is a misdeed if he does not go beyond the navel, and he commits a downfall if he does. Combine the others with other chapters. The sixty downfalls are complete. The origin of the prohibition against killing sentient beings is in Shravasti. At that time, the venerable Ekacakra got up early in the morning and went to the city to beg for alms. In Shravasti, he saw some people practicing throwing. When the teacher of throwing was away, Ekaca
