Therefore, the Six Groups of monks were condemned for violating the rules, and thus, all situations that become the target of offenses, such as not changing the color of the Dharma robe, and using large colors that are not recognized by the Shramanas, and not allowing the wearing of large colored clothes, etc., have been established as precepts for learning. Furthermore, "monk" refers to the Six Groups of monks, and others similar to them. "Clothes" refers to any of the seven types of clothing materials mentioned. "New" has two types: those that are originally new, and those that are newly acquired. "Changing to three colors" refers to choosing any of the colors that will be mentioned below. "Blue" refers to blue dyed with indigo. "Red" refers to madder. "Kasaya color" refers to colors dyed with tree bark and flowers. "Falling" is the same as before. "Offense" refers to any of the three colors, and if one wears clothes that have not been changed in color, one will commit a sin of falling. Even utensils such as alms bowls, if used without changing the color, will all be considered minor offenses. The eight large colors that are not allowed are: indigo, madder, rouge, saffron, indigo tree, red lead, madder tree, orpiment, etc. If they are used without inspection, minor offenses will be committed. The origin of not allowing the casual use of jewels is that, at that time in Shravasti, the Venerable Charka went to the place where the village children were learning and practicing skills and games. Since their teacher had gone elsewhere and was not there, he tormented the students, making them perform jumping and wrestling, but he was not satisfied, so he changed his face and closed his eyes and said, "Your teacher is not proficient either, how could he possibly teach you? You are like holding up empty shells, without any results." The Venerable Charka then performed jumping and dancing, and the children were very unhappy, feeling regret and shame. When their teacher returned, they said, "We are like holding up empty shells, that Venerable Charka said so." This is because the Venerable Charka is a Bodhisattva, and even when playing, he is an expert in jumping and music, so we ordinary people cannot learn it.

However, I exhorted the students to only teach what I know. I implore the teachers not to be stingy with their teachings in the future. As a reward, musical instruments and implements of skill were placed, and the children unpleasantly screamed and mocked. Later, in the vast city, when the Licchavi children bathed in the water, they took off their ornaments and placed them aside. The monk Upānanda took them and said, "These are the treasures of the yakshas." The children chased after him. An old man saw it and made him return it. The children threw dirt at him. They went to the temple, and the monks asked him what his offense was, and he told them the truth. Although such an offense occurred, at that time, no place of learning for discipline was established. Later, in the vast city of Vaishali, the Licchavi pleasure garden was praised by the Buddha as "like a mixed garden of the Thirty-Three Heavens (Trāyastriṃśa)." The Six Group monks heard this and thought, "What is it like? Let's go see." So they entered the garden. There were bathing ponds and musical instruments, as well as the war drums of enemies such as Ajātaśatru. The venerable Six Group monks first bathed, and then beat the war drums. The Licchavis thought that Ajātaśatru's army had come, and they all came to the pleasure garden in fear. The Six Group monks said, "There is no enemy, we were just joking." Everyone was very frightened and flustered, and unpleasantly said, "What kind of joke is this!" People heard the unpleasant sounds and scolded the Six Group monks, saying, "Taking and using jewels and things close to jewels, such as musical instruments and weapons, etc." They scolded them in various ways, and thus established the place of learning for discipline that prohibits touching jewels and things similar to jewels. Bhikshu refers to the Six Group monks, and others similar to them. Jewels refer to gems, pearls, vaidurya, coral, right-turning conch shells, gold, silver, etc. Similar to jewels refers to weapons of battle and all musical instruments. One's own hand refers to taking it oneself. Inside the dwelling and inside the Saṃghārāma.
