Instructions. The downfall is as before. If you conceal the offense of a bad place, it is a minor offense until dawn. If dawn breaks, it becomes a downfall. If you speak of the offense of a bad place, if it is only to the extent that it becomes an obstacle to virtue and an obstacle to pure conduct, there is no offense in concealing it. The fifty downfalls are complete. The story of not allowing the cutting off of a monk's food, saying, "I am happy alone," is in Shravasti. The close disciple of the venerable Ananda, Dharma Nature, who was repentant and ashamed, spoke of all the offenses of Near Joy. Therefore, Joy was angry and thought, "I will harm him." Joy and Near Joy were both called to the village, and the disciple Dharma Nature prepared to go for alms. The two of them said, "Come after us, and we will give you food." The disciples could not bear to disobey, so they followed the abbot. When they arrived in the village, Joy and Dharma Nature stayed behind, and Near Joy went to the village for alms. Near Joy came back and stayed with Dharma Nature again. Joy went to the village for alms. Later, Dharma Nature repeatedly urged Near Joy, saying, "Now the sun is setting, it is time to eat." Near Joy said, "I am happy alone." And drove him away, saying, "Go wherever you like." He took his bowl, and because he would have no way to beg for food in the future, he returned to the temple and lay down. Other alms-gathering monks saw him and asked, "Why are you lying down like that?" He told them the details of the reason. After the monks heard it, they rebuked him in various ways and established the place of learning that does not allow the cutting off of a monk's food. Again, "a certain monk" refers to Near Joy, the son of the Shakya family, and others are similar to him. "This monk" refers to Dharma Nature, and others also enter this Dharma. "Going to the village" refers to the houses of householders and Brahmins. "Giving you food" refers to promising to give five kinds of food and drink. "Not happy with you, go away" refers to thinking of cutting off food and driving him away. "That cause" refers to that cause of thinking of cutting off food. "Intentionally thought of

Whoever it may be, if a bhikkhu cuts off food, he commits a downfall. Except when a doctor advises in times of illness. The reason why bhikkhus are not allowed to make fire is when they went from Shravasti to Rajagriha. At that time, the Blessed One was traveling and went with many merchants. That night, they went to a herdsman's temple. In the evening, he instructed them to divide the bedding among the old, weak, sick, and disabled. After dividing it like that, the Six Groups of bhikkhus came to a tree stump and made a fire. The tree was burned and smoked. As a result, a poisonous snake lived in the tree. It fell down and stayed on the branch. The Six Groups of bhikkhus saw it and called out "Lhung Lhung." The merchants all ran away, and it became a fault because of making fire. Later, when they arrived in Rajagriha, again the Six Groups of bhikkhus, like a wheel, turned the torch, running and playing like the sun and the moon. Therefore, the heretics ridiculed, "What is the difference and distinction between these bald-headed shramanas and householders?" Therefore, it is not allowed to make fire, and precepts are established. Like this, bhikkhus who are not allowed to make fire do not light butter lamps, do not burn incense, and do not serve the guru and khenpo. The color of the bowl and clothes are not changed. If a bhikkhu is sick and asks the doctor, the doctor says it would be good to roast it with fire. Like this and so on, it is time, please allow and bless. Also, bhikkhu refers to the Six Groups of bhikkhus, and others are the same as them. Not sick means other than being sick. For oneself means for oneself. Touching means touching oneself. Having someone touch means entrusting it to someone else. Downfall is the same as before. Holding the fire, running and playing like the sun and the moon, each time playing will commit a downfall. Turning the torch will commit a downfall. Making fire or extinguishing fire, putting in or taking out the torch. Collecting or piling up the torch. When the fire is about to go out, think about whether it is time. If you don't do that, you will commit a downfall each time.
