If they didn't stop and instead scolded, this would add a burden on the king. The king then ordered everyone in the country who lived by weapons to increase taxes and universally proclaimed that the army's cavalry and infantry, etc., would march down from the temple gate. After proclaiming that the six groups of monks would proceed like a large-bellied army, (the king) watched the army's equipment and mocked, "This elephant, like a pig, will not change even if it reaches the mountain village. You are equipped, you can have whatever you want, but there is no chance of returning." After saying these words, those people also felt afraid and returned from the road due to cowardice. After that, the king asked, "Why did you return?" The king was angry, and (they) reported, "We were not allowed to watch the army's equipment and were also reprimanded." The so-called monks are the six groups of monks, and others are similar to this. The so-called army equipment is the desire to fight. The so-called army is composed of one part, two parts, three parts, and four parts. Composed of one part is the elephant group; composed of two parts is the cavalry group; composed of three parts is the chariot group; composed of four parts is the infantry group. Walking from the temple road, the army came to the temple, and the king, ministers, generals, people, etc., were summoned, or eight obstacles, etc., occurred. There is no fault in seeing the army. It is not allowed to watch and stay in the army for more than two days. This topic exists in Nyen (place name). That mountain village has not been reached yet, and the king is still in that place. The ministers discussed and said, "The householder Anathapindika is wise and capable, so it is appropriate to summon the householder." So they sent a messenger to summon him. After a long time, he still did not come. Anathapindika was also unhappy, and King Prasenajit questioned, "Is the householder unhappy to be separated from his wife and children? What is the fault?" (Anathapindika replied,) "I am not unhappy to be separated from my wife and children, but I am unhappy because there are no noble monks." After saying this, the king therefore sent a letter saying, "Monks, come here quickly." The elderly monks are old and weak and cannot go, and the young monks have not yet learned the precepts well, so they listen and strive.

Some who could not bear it were unable to walk due to illness. The group of six monks promised, "Our king and ministers wish to hear the Dharma." The group of six monks arrived in the army and stayed for many days, teasing the army, pushing each other, and joking, "Miser, your elephant is like a pig, your horse is like a donkey." They grabbed (the soldiers') tails and spun them around, saying, "People are not like grass." And they threw (things) at their necks, causing those soldiers to feel uncomfortable and unhappy, thinking about these things in their hearts. The king saw this and requested, "It is not permissible for monks to stay in the army for long." The king rebuked the group of six monks, scolding them, "This is not what monks should do." And he established a precept, not allowing them to stay in the army for more than two days. "Because of such a reason" means being invited by the king, generals, and villagers. "Monk" means the group of six monks, and others similar to them. "Army" means including one branch, etc., as mentioned before. "To go to see" means for the sake of seeing. "More than two days" means exceeding the time. "Falling" means as mentioned before. If the king and ministers order to stay, or because eight great obstacles have occurred, then there is no falling. Even when staying in the army for two days, it is not permissible to disrupt the conduct of battle. This story occurred in Shravasti. King Prasenajit had not yet returned from the village of Ribhrag, and Anathapindika was also unhappy because there were no monks, so he wrote a letter saying, "Send some monks there." The other monks hurried as before. The group of six monks came again. Previously, they were not allowed to stay for more than two days, and later, even within the two days, they disrupted the conduct of battle with elephant troops, etc., as before. They (the soldiers) thought we were allies of the enemy, hiding beforehand in the dense forest. When the army came, the group of six monks beat drums, blew conches, and made noise, and King Prasenajit's army was frightened again, thinking in their hearts that the enemy had come, so they turned around and fled. Then they ran forward again, waiting, and asked, "Why are you fleeing?" (The soldiers) said, "Because you disrupted the battle, we fled."
