Starting from the ridicule, 'Do not become the ruler of Mara,' the monks heard it, spread it in their ears, and condemned it in various ways. From now on, they are no longer allowed to do so, and the precepts have been established. 'Any monk' refers to 'the manifest one,' and also to others similar to him. 'Creating disputes' means creating division between men and women. 'Place' refers to the house of Brahmins and householders. 'Pulling and sitting down' means merely putting the buttocks on the ground. If you don't know, there is no downfall. The origin of not allowing monks to stand in a place of contention is that in Shravasti, the venerable Manifest One, as before, realized that someone was engaging in impure conduct. He thought, 'I will go and watch the sexual intercourse of the two of them.' So he followed behind and hid behind the door. When the two were having intercourse, the wife saw him and said, 'Manifest One, do not do this.' The Venerable Manifest One said, 'I am just doing meditation of liberation.' They ignored him, and after finishing, they saw the Manifest One standing there. They condemned and made unpleasant noises, which the monks heard and spread in their ears. Therefore, the precept of not allowing standing in a place of contention was established. 'Any monk' refers to 'the manifest one,' and also to others similar to him. 'Knowing' means knowing by oneself, or being told by others. 'Contention' is the same as before. 'Place' refers to a house. 'Secluded place' means a place where there are no other men and women. 'Sheltered' means sheltered by curtains, mats, or walls. There is no fault in standing in times of fear or accidents. Different from the previous one, here the standing is specifically stipulated. The origin of not allowing monks to give food from their own hands to naked ascetics or naked heretics is that when the Blessed One was traveling in the country of Kosala, he came to Shravasti. In the Jeta Grove in Shravasti, about five hundred women were spinning thread. The Blessed One taught them the Dharma and made them fully understand the truth. Then, those five hundred women thought, 'We should offer food to the Blessed One.' So they asked Ananda, 'How much money is needed?' Ananda said, 'Five hundred karshapanas.'

After saying "Okay," they offered five hundred Karshapanas to the Venerable Ananda, saying, "We are sons of women and cannot mix, nor do we have utensils." Ananda said, "Entrust it to a wealthy householder." Ananda also entrusted it to the householder Anathapindika. When distributing food, the Venerable Ananda, a friend of the women, also helped. At that time, two naked women came to beg for food and sat at the end of the line. Ananda, without thinking, gave one portion to the old woman and two to the young woman when distributing food. The old woman said, "Young one, Ananda is making eyes at you." The young woman said, "Having renounced the world from the son of a king, having abandoned consorts and many beautiful women to become a renunciate, what would he expect from someone as defiled as me?" Although it was already assumed, what kind of man would have no pleasure? The monks heard this and reported it to the Buddha, who forbade giving food to naked women themselves. The term "naked" refers to some naked ascetics who have no livelihood and, out of hunger, beg from the monks. When the monks provide food, they ridicule the monks, making unpleasant noises and boasting, "We are the alms-place of the monks; we receive offerings." Therefore, it was forbidden to give with one's own hands. The term "monk" refers to Ananda and others like him. The term "naked woman" refers to someone without clothes. The term "wanderer" refers to non-Buddhist ascetics different from them. The offense is as before. Except for giving to separate from the view of sickness and sin. Food and drink are also included, and if given with one's own hand, it becomes an offense. It is also not allowed for the five kinds of edible food and seasonings, and if given through another, it is a minor offense. The reason for not allowing monks to go to see the army equipped is that when in Shravasti, some mountain villages of the Kosala kingdom revolted, and the king sent the army commander and his entourage to conquer the mountain villages, and later reinforcements were also sent.
