They eat without entering for alms. Later, the Blessed One was walking around the monastery and saw the black one's dry food. He asked whose it was, and Ananda replied that it was the black monk's. The Buddha rebuked him, saying, "The monks do not investigate the lineage of those who eat leftover food." He then established the precept of not allowing the eating of leftover food. The so-called monk is the black one, and others are similar. There are two kinds of leftovers: food received in the morning becomes leftovers in the afternoon; food received in the afternoon becomes leftovers in the evening. What has been left overnight within the boundary, or what has been prepared by a monk, or what has not been blessed, can also be included. The so-called food, edibles, and drinks are as before. If one thinks of leftovers as leftovers, or eats with doubt, each instance becomes a downfall. If one thinks of non-leftovers as leftovers, or does not eat with doubt, each instance becomes a misdeed. If the bowl is not clean, and there are leftovers, or if it is tilted, or if it is placed in a hot place, and there are leftovers, and one eats porridge, it becomes a misdeed. If one drinks water without rinsing the mouth, it also becomes a misdeed. If one eats leftover flowers and fruits, it also becomes a downfall. The origin of the rule that monks should not eat without receiving is in Shravasti. At that time, the black monk's possessions and livelihood were all from the cemetery. His bowl was a broken clay pot from the cemetery. His clothes were discarded clothes of dead people from the cemetery. His food was the rice gruel discarded by relatives for the dead. That venerable black one, when many people died, his body became fat and he did not go for alms. When few people died, he went to the village for alms and his body did not become fat. Therefore, in the area of Shravasti, the venerable black one was known to eat human flesh. The Buddha taught that one should receive and eat, but the group of six monks ate without receiving. The Blessed One thought that all faults arose from not receiving, and in order to subdue and make beings believe, he did not allow not receiving.

These are the trainings regarding discipline. Bhikshu means the group of six, and others similar to them. Not given means not given by men and women. Swallowing from the mouth means the five foods and five drinks. Except for water and toothpicks, it means that in the monasteries, even water and toothpicks were not allowed to be taken, but later after reporting, it was allowed to take things other than water and toothpicks. The offense is as before. If one eats without being given, with the thought of being given and with doubt, one will commit each offense. If one eats with the thought of not being given and with doubt after being given, one commits a misdeed. Giving by animals like monkeys, elephants, and sensible animals, as well as female bears, is also considered giving. In a place of reproach, it is okay to eat things that have not been given, and placing them on a mandala, offering them like tapping an unpleasant sound and then eating them. It is not allowed to beg for good food from other people's homes when sick, this origin occurred in Shravasti. At that time, the householder Shakya Great Name invited the Buddha and other Sangha members for a meal. The Buddha allowed them to go with their retinue. The Buddha went with his retinue to Great Name's house, received offerings, taught the Dharma to the householder, praised him, made him very happy, and then returned. The group of six bhikshus begged for ghee rice on the way to the village, wiped it with something, and even though they didn't get any rice, they rolled up their cushions and arrived at Great Name's house. There they begged for food, and after the food was finished, they mixed in some bad things. They were not satisfied, and they took milk, yogurt, ghee, fish, meat, and dried meat from other people's houses and ate them, and then returned to the monastery. After they returned to the monastery, the bhikshus asked them: Where did you eat your meal? They replied: At Great Name's place. The bhikshus said: We didn't see you. They said: We arrived later. The bhikshus asked: What did you eat? They replied: Milk, meat, and dried fish. The bhikshus said: We didn't eat it, do you have the right to beg for those things? They replied: Whether we have the right or not, we ate it anyway. The other bhikshus felt ashamed after hearing this.
