It should be taught not to hold the water vessel with (hands) contaminated with food. It should be taught that the monk sitting nearby should not sprinkle water contaminated with food. Without asking the householder, it should be taught not to pour water contaminated with food into the house. These four were also established while in Shravasti. Not looking at the bowl of the monk sitting nearby is because when a monk is invited as a guest to eat food, one of the six groups of monks, a monk with a large belly, is sitting nearby, (they) say, "Look how much he has." And it was established because of being criticized. Not holding the water vessel is because when the six groups of monks are eating food, they hold the water vessel with hands contaminated with food, and it was established because of being criticized by a clean Brahmin. Not sprinkling the monk with water contaminated with food is because when the six groups of monks are eating food, they harbor malice towards a monk wearing good Dharma robes and sprinkle him with water contaminated with food, and it was established. Not pouring water contaminated with food without asking the householder is because when the Buddha was staying in the land of the White Sugar Cane, Prince Awakened invited him, and after offering food, the six groups of monks poured the water from their bowls onto the patterned house, causing the householder to quarrel, and it was established. It should be taught not to pour food scraps into the bowl. It should be taught not to place the bowl in a place without a base. It should be taught to place the bowl in a place that is not tilted, not a cliff, and not steep. These were also established in Shravasti. Not pouring leftovers into the bowl is because the son of a clean Brahmin was sick, and the doctor said that washing with water from a monk's bowl would be beneficial. The Brahmin asked Nears Delight for water, and Nears Delight gave water mixed with rice, flour, fruit, and bones, which the Brahmin did not want, and it was established. Not placing the bowl without a base is because the monk placed the bowl without a base and then ate, and it was established. From "not a tilted place" to "not a steep place," it was established that it is not allowed because the monk placed it in a place contrary to these. It should be taught not to wash the bowl while standing. Wash the bowl in a place that is not tilted, not a cliff, and not steep.
