In short, after the naked ascetic monks went to Jetavana Monastery, the Buddha initially established the rule allowing one monastic robe to be left in a layman's house. Later, the monks did not understand the meaning, and a few went to the layman's house with their robes, only to be told, "Do not sleep here." So, the monks left their robes in the village and ran to the robes to make offerings at dawn. In this way, when running to the robes before dawn, they were afraid of wild people, thieves, lions, tigers, and leopards. Therefore, it was stipulated that in the monastery, the robes should be kept close and not separated. Later, the monks found that the robes left in the village had been burned, so it was stipulated that wandering and staying overnight outside the boundary of the monastery should not exceed six nights. After that, the group of six knowingly violated the rule and exceeded seven nights, so the Nissaggiya Pacittiya was established. The so-called "late summer" refers to entering the later stage. The so-called "accompanied by doubt" refers to thieves. The so-called "accompanied by fear" refers to being afraid of tigers and leopards. The so-called "many fish" refers to knowing that there are places where meat flies and the like gather. The so-called monastery refers to within one krosha (approximately two kilometers). The place closest to the village from the monastery belongs to the scope of the monastery. If an accident occurs in the monastery and it is necessary to move to another place, one monastic robe can be left in the village closest to the monastery. If you return to the monastery after six nights, there is no offense even if you do not see the robe. If a monk has one month left in spring, he should look for summer cloth and can sew it within half a month after the end of summer. If a monk looks for summer cloth before one month is left in spring, or sews it more than half a month after the end of summer, he commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. When the Buddha was residing in Shravasti, the monks were busy looking for cloth, which became an obstacle to good deeds, so the Buddha stipulated that it should be sewn by monks with few desires and contentment. The time to look for cloth is from the first day of the first month of summer to the fifteenth day of the second month. Looking for it before this time is an offense of Nissaggiya Pacittiya. The cloth can be stored until the end of the second month of autumn. Exceeding this time is an offense of Nissaggiya Pacittiya. Furthermore, if a monk knowingly takes possession of property dedicated to the Sangha, he commits an offense of Nissaggiya Pacittiya. The Buddha was in Shravasti.

At the time when (the Buddha) was residing somewhere, a householder dedicated two pieces of cloth to the Sangha, declaring that they had been given away. However, Venerable Ananda waited on the road, claiming, "This is a great offering for me," and then took the cloth. The Vinaya stipulates: Whether it is an offering to the Sangha or to an individual, if another Bhikshu knowingly takes it after it has been offered, it constitutes a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If something is offered to a Buddha image or a stupa, or if a Dharma scroll is offered separately to parents in one's youth, and then one regrets it and re-offers it, it constitutes a Dukkata offense. For great stupas, namely those commemorating enlightenment, turning the wheel of Dharma, displaying miracles, and the descent from the heavens, the decorations should not be interchanged. And for stupas commemorating the subduing of demons, etc., the decorations should not be interchanged either. The Blessed One taught about the types of food that are beneficial for sick Bhikshus, such as ghee, sesame oil, honey, and jaggery. If these foods are needed, the sick Bhikshu should bless and store them himself for seven days, and then consume them. If they are stored beyond this period, it constitutes a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. When the Buddha was residing in Rajagriha, the Bhikshus in charge of protection and the attendant Bhikshus would receive and give medicine to the sick until they were healed. If they consumed it unnecessarily, a Bhikshu who was not strict in discipline rebuked them, and therefore the rule was established: Once a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense has been committed, until the item is relinquished, any items acquired afterward and all the requisites acquired by the practitioner will also constitute a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. The ritual for blessing medicine is as follows: After receiving the medicine, sit in front of a Bhikshu and say, "Venerable ones, please listen. I, a Bhikshu named so-and-so, take this suitable medicine and, for the sake of myself and those who practice Brahmacharya with me, bless it for seven days." Repeat this three times. When taking the medicine, if it needs to be taken for a long time, then after taking it for one day, say to a Bhikshu, "I will take it tomorrow as well." Say this after taking it for two days as well, and continue until seven days. Venerable ones, I have finished explaining these thirty Nissaggiya Pacittiya offenses. Now, I would like to ask you, venerable ones, whether you abide here in purity?
