Determined by the dawn of ten, to consecrate with mantras, whether the material is not distinguished, the color is not distinguished, or the shape is not distinguished, is acceptable. From one cubit to four cubits and above, consecrate with mantras. If the material is not distinguished, even if it is not consecrated with mantras, it is not necessary to abandon it; it will become a misdeed. If abandonment occurs after ten days, and one abandons an object after a long time, then between those two, even small utensils and everything found must be abandoned. A bhikkhu, having taken hold of the robes, having undone the fastening, if one night any one of the three robes is separated from beyond the boundary, unless permitted by the Sangha, it is an offense entailing forfeiture. When the Buddha was residing in Shravasti, the bhikkus obtained many robes and were unable to wear them all. They accumulated the obtained items, and when wandering in the city, one robe was not enough to cover the body, and engaging in many other activities became an obstacle to virtue. Having been reproached by others, the rule was established. The meaning of undoing the fastening is like the back. What is called fastening there is when sewing, washing, or drying the robes, the robes are attached to a large wooden board of the appropriate size, and nailed down, like fastening. Therefore, among the three robes, if the Sangha of one boundary consecrates the robes with mantras, it is a fastening, and they will not be separated. On the day of undoing the fastening, after the bhikkus have each consecrated their robes with mantras, from the next day until the sixteenth of the middle autumn month, if they hold their consecrated robes and are separated from inside or outside the boundary for one night, it is an offense entailing forfeiture. If abandonment due to separation occurs and one abandons that object after a long time, then between those two, even small utensils and everything found must be abandoned. There, to mention briefly the boundary of the enclosure, when a bhikku resides in a monastery or city, within one bow's length from the back of the outer wall of the temple. Outside the city, the boundary is within about one cart's length from the back of the large one, or as far as the dust raised by grazing sheep and goats reaches. If one lies down or sits within the boundary, within one bow's length, one goes on the road. If one makes offerings with water, within forty-nine bows' length is the boundary. There are three types of dawn: blue dawn, yellow dawn, and red dawn. About that

Separation refers to distinguishing with blue-green color. Pale blue appears around one-third of the way through the early morning hours. The making of monastic robes depends on examining the material, shape, and color. Examining the material includes sheep wool, Kashmiri silk, Sebo silk, silkworm silk, Koshan, and cotton. Examining the color includes yellow, red, and blue. Examining the shape means it should not be like a light bulb. The Sangha allows separation in cases such as when the elder Upali is old and frail and cannot lift the sewing frame, or when Shariputra has a wind disease and cannot lift the sewing frame. Allowing separation is when it is permissible. If a bhikkhu has completed the making of a monastic robe and finalized it, and then obtains an untimely robe, if he wishes, that bhikkhu should take out a lining. If it fits, he should quickly sew the robe and wear it. If it does not fit, and he hopes to find a suitable lining, that bhikkhu should keep it for one month. Keeping it beyond that period incurs a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. When the Buddha was residing in Sravasti, the bhikkhus obtained many robes and accumulated many robes hoping to find suitable linings. Therefore, a rule was established by bhikkhus who were of few affairs, few concerns, and self-controlled. If any of the three monastic robes is missing a part of its material, if it fits, sew it and wear it. If it does not fit, and there is hope of finding a suitable supplement, keep it for one month. Exceeding that period incurs a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If one possesses a white monastic robe material, it is also permissible to hope to find a colored supplement. Or, if one possesses a colored material, it is also permissible to hope to find a white supplement. If one possesses a material that has already changed color, one should not hope to find a supplement that is different from that color. Other items that do not belong to the three monastic robes are not allowed to be kept for more than one month. Furthermore, if any bhikkhu entrusts an old robe to someone who is not a bhikkhuni to wash, boil, or rinse, it incurs a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. When the Buddha was residing in Sravasti, when the bhikkhu Acharya was teaching the Dharma to his wife Sbeyma, desire arose. The bhikkhuni also knew that desire had arisen, so she fled, and afterwards also...
