The hand is pure conduct, it should be severed, it is the law of defeat, proclamation, and understanding the meaning of others, these four. If these four are complete, then it becomes a Sanghavasesa. The words of slander, saying to others nine times, each time is a Sanghavasesa. Having heard from others and believed, saying I have seen it. Having heard and not believed, saying I have seen it. Having heard and there is no need, these are all the same. If one possesses the beginning of calculation, Sanghavasesa, then it becomes Sanghavasesa. Furthermore, if a certain bhikkhu, being hateful, angrily wants to harm, thinking that in any case he must sever this pure conduct, then to a bhikkhu who is pure and innocent, he slanders with a Parajika that is not another part, even if at that time he asks others it is okay, the dispute is also not another part, the dispute is also only taking a violation of the Dharma from a small part. If the bhikkhu also abides in hatred, because of anger he spoke those words, then it is also a Sanghavasesa. When the Buddha was dwelling in the Light Garden of Rajagriha, the bhikkhu named Gyad's son, the bhikkhu named Gyad Bu Nor, next to the herdsman's dwelling surrounded by the mounds of Vulture Peak, made a hut and lived there, the bhikkhuni who had attained the fruit of Arhat, named Utpalavarna, came there, and was seen by the bhikkhu friends and landowners, not putting down the previous hatred, giving rise to a mind of slander, taking from the part where wild animals were seen engaging in impure conduct on the mountain, proclaimed that Gyad Bu Nor and the bhikkhuni Utpalavarna were engaging in sexual intercourse, therefore the precepts were established. The words of the letters are the same as the previous ones. What is called not another part, another is other than samsara, that is, nirvana. The part that belongs to it is the virtuous aspects, the part that does not belong to it is the non-virtuous aspects. Or, what is called another part, refers to wild animals engaging in impure conduct. What is called not, refers to not engaging in impure conduct. The limbs are severing pure conduct, not another part, saying it oneself, and understanding the meaning of others. Becoming large is the same as what is said later. Furthermore, if a certain bhikkhu enters for the purpose of dividing the harmony of the Sangha, for the purpose of dividing, correctly grasping the dispute, and abiding with attachment, the bhikkhu...

O venerable ones, do not engage in dividing the Sangha that is in harmony. Do not cling to disputes for the sake of division, and do not dwell on them. Venerable ones, let the Sangha be in harmony! Stop! May the Sangha be harmonious and undivided, joyful in every way, without disputes, with one mind, one voice, and like water and milk mixed together. If the teachings of the Teacher are made clear, one will abide in comfort. Venerable ones, you should admonish, "Abandon such things that cause division in the Sangha!" After the monks have admonished that monk in this way, if he gives up that thing, then it is good. If he does not give it up, then for the sake of abandoning that thing, he should be properly admonished twice or three times, and properly instructed. After being properly admonished twice or three times, and properly instructed, if he gives up that thing, then it is good. If he does not give it up, it is a Sanghavasesa offense. When the Buddha was residing in Rajagriha (རྒྱལ་པོའི་ཁབ་, Rājagṛha, present-day Rajgir in Bihar), Devadatta (ལྷས་བྱིན་) became attached to gains and honor, and he requested the Buddha, saying, "Venerable One, you are old and frail, please entrust the fourfold assembly to me, and I will teach." The Buddha rebuked him, saying, "Even to the Sangha of pure conduct like Sariputra (ཤཱཀྱའི་བུ་) and Maudgalyayana (མཽད་གལ་གྱི་བུ་), I would not entrust the fourfold assembly, why would I entrust it to you, Devadatta, who is like spit?" Devadatta was very displeased and said to Great Virtue Sea-Given and others, "O monks, I cannot expect the Teacher to labor and torment himself for me. While the Buddha is still alive, if we divide the Sangha of the Hearers and split the assembly, then the good name will spread unceasingly." Thus, he began to engage in dividing the Sangha. The so-called Sangha in harmony refers to being in harmony with six characteristics. What are the six? Same precepts, same activity, same view, same conduct, same livelihood. The so-called different precepts, for example, what Devadatta did, in order to make it meaningless, is like wearing clothes made of uncut cloth. Different activity refers to acting in a way that does not conform to the activity of requesting and petitioning. Precepts
