Just as the Dharma that establishes knowable objects, the Vinaya that establishes discipline, and the great teachings, as well as the teachings that show darkness. To be disciplined, to be pacified, to be completely pacified, refers to the stages of small, medium, and large, or the stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion, or the order of the stages of Dharma, Vinaya, and teachings. Venerable ones, I have declared the seven Dharmas for pacifying disputes, which is the conclusion of the exhortation to pacify disputes. The seven Dharmas for pacifying disputes refer to the seven Dharmas previously mentioned. Declared means that it is concluded with the meaning of a vow. It is said to make the listeners happy. Regarding this, I will ask the venerable ones: Are you pure in this? Are you pure in this? Ask twice or three times in this way. If the venerable ones are pure in this, then without saying anything, they will accept it as it is. This is to declare the establishment of the Dharma for pacifying disputes. Regarding this, it refers to after declaring the seven Dharmas for pacifying disputes. The rest is the same as before. Thus, after distinguishing the seven Dharmas for pacifying disputes and briefly explaining the commentaries belonging to the Pratimoksha Sutra. Now, the chapter on the basis of disputes and inquiries will be discussed. As it is said, "The seven Dharmas for pacifying disputes," among them, dispute refers to conflict, which is the mind being biased because the opponent has spoken words that do not agree with one's own mind, but it is not anger. If the mind being biased because the opponent has spoken words that do not agree with one's own mind is conflict, but that is not the dispute itself, then why does the scripture say that the fighting, exposing shortcomings, disputes, and debates that arise from this are all disputes for the sake of debate? Thus, fighting and so on are the retinue of the conflict of the mind being biased because the opponent has spoken words that do not agree with one's own mind, because they arise from being related to it, so it should be known that those are also included in this. Among them, dispute is

There are four kinds of disputes: disputes for the sake of distribution, disputes for the sake of non-acceptance, disputes for the sake of transgression, and disputes arising from the cause of distribution. Disputes arising from the cause of non-acceptance are disputes for the sake of non-acceptance. Disputes arising from the cause of transgression are disputes for the sake of transgression. Disputes arising from the cause of action are disputes for the sake of action. It is said that in order to clearly grasp the essence of these four disputes, the four disputes of contention arise sequentially from the four causes of contention. What are the four causes of contention? They are: to wrongly assert the suchness of things, to abandon others by establishing instructions and so on, to possess transgressions, and to give what is in accordance with the action. Among them, what is it like to wrongly assert the suchness of things? A thing is that which separately establishes the Dharma, and the thing that separately establishes the discipline, that is, the Dharma and the Vinaya, and the teacher's doctrine, and the transgressions, that is, those previously included. Suchness is how the Dharma is separately established, how the discipline is truly established, that is, Dharma and non-Dharma, Vinaya and non-Vinaya, the teacher's doctrine and non-teacher's doctrine, transgression and non-transgression, and so on, the very nature of the thing itself, which is synonymous with "one's own essence." Among them, wrongly asserted means uncertainty, that is, whether the Dharma is separately established, or not separately established, whether the discipline is separately established, or not separately established, and so on, like leading into duality. In this way, wrongly asserting the suchness of things also includes the analysis of things. The form of things is what should be done and what should not be done, what should be taken and what should be abandoned, what should be given and what should not be given, what should be appointed and what should not be appointed, and so on. Among them, analysis means why your action was not done, was it done when it should not have been done? Or, what should have been taken was abandoned, and what should have been abandoned was taken? Or, what should have been given was not given, and what should not have been given was given?
