Children, brides of lineage, and prostitutes beg in this way, which is not proper, do not beg in this way. They said: Wise ones, there is a need for this. Holy ones, what is the need? First of all, you yourselves are ignorant and need to be taught. Hearing them scolding extensively, at that time the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One thought: What the householders say is true, so as before, he made the rule to learn not to eat too small portions. The place was Shravasti (Mnyan yod, present-day Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, India). The people were the group of six monks. The affliction was impropriety. The offense was eating too small portions of food. Among them, the so-called not eating too small portions, the so-called "food" refers to the food that is put into the mouth and swallowed. Among them, the so-called not too small, is to learn to eat food well. Among them, here the classification of the root downfall is that in the case of the root, if one does not learn in that way, it will become the root of the offense of confession. The agent here is too small a portion of food and the food itself. There is only one branch here, which is the accomplishment of the root itself. Regarding the combination and the accomplishment of the combination, as before, according to the circumstances, there is reproach. The forty-ninth precept. The basis for learning not to eat too large portions of food is: The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Shravasti (Mnyan yod, present-day Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, India) in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. When the group of six monks were eating alms in other people's homes, they were eating too large portions, and were seen by Brahmins, householders, and those with children, who scolded them, saying: Holy ones, children and mutes beg in this way, which is not proper, do not beg in this way. They said: Wise ones, there is a need for this. Holy ones, what is the need? First of all, you yourselves are ignorant and need to be taught. Hearing them scolding extensively, at that time the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One thought: What the householders say is true.

Thinking, just like before, one should be taught not to eat too large mouthfuls of food, so the precept was established. The place was Shravasti (Jetavana). The people were the Group of Six. The affliction was impropriety. The fault was eating too large mouthfuls of food. Among these, the so-called "not too large mouthfuls" means not too large mouthfuls. Therefore, one should learn to eat well. Among these, here the root downfall is classified, and if one does not learn in that way in the root situation, it will become the root of a misdeed that should be confessed. The agent here is too large mouthfuls and the food itself. There is only one branch here, which is the practice of the root itself. Regarding the combination and the practice of the combination of the combination, if there is anything inappropriate, it will also be blamed, just like before. This is the fiftieth precept. The basis for learning to eat food in moderation is: The Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti (Jetavana). When the Group of Six were eating alms in other people's homes, they ate immoderately and were seen by Brahmins and faithful patrons, who scolded them, saying: Venerables, you eat like children and mutes, this is improper, do not eat like this. They said: Knowledgeable ones, this is necessary. Venerables, what is the necessity? First of all, you yourselves are ignorant and uneducated. Hearing them scolding extensively, at that time the monks reported to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan thought: The patrons are right, just like before, one should be taught to eat food in moderation, so the precept was established. The place was Shravasti (Jetavana). The people were the Group of Six. The affliction was impropriety, the fault was eating food immoderately. Among these, the so-called "moderation" means moderation that is in accordance with oneself and in accordance with the world. Therefore, one should learn to eat well. Among these, here the root downfall is classified, and if one does not learn in that way in the root situation, it will become the root of a misdeed that should be confessed. The agent here is immoderation and the food itself.
