A rain of barley flour beer fell on the net. While they were sitting there without saying a word, the monks petitioned the Blessed One. The Blessed One made the rule that, as before, one should train to look at the alms bowl and take food. The place was Shravasti (Mnyan yod). The person was an elderly monk. The affliction was distraction. The fault was taking food without looking at the alms bowl. Among these, the so-called "looking at the alms bowl" means to recognize it as a container and accept it. A monk who has the thought of looking at the alms bowl is one who looks at the alms bowl. Here, looking at the alms bowl means looking with the mind. Looking with the eyes was already included in the previous instance of looking at the yoke. Therefore, one should look in that way and train well to take food. Among these, here the classification of the root downfall is that if one does not train in that way in the root situation, it will become the root of an act of wrongdoing that needs to be confessed. The agent here is taking food without looking at the alms bowl, and the food itself. The limb here is one, which is the accomplishment of the root itself. As for the preparation and the accomplishment of the preparation of the preparation, one should rebuke as appropriate, and this is the same as before. The forty-fourth training. The basis for establishing the training of not holding the alms bowl in the future without making an offering or eating is: The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti (Mnyan yod). When the Six Groups went for alms, they would sit holding their alms bowls as long as no alms were given. Brahmins and faithful householders saw this and rebuked them, saying: Why do the noble ones hold and eat from their alms bowls without having made an offering or eating? This is not proper, do not do this. They said: Wise ones, there is a need for this. Noble ones, what is the need for this? First of all, you yourselves are ignorant and untrained. Having heard them rebuke extensively, at that time the monks petitioned the Blessed One. The Blessed One thought: What the householders say is true. So, as before, he established the rule.

And it was decreed that one should learn not to take the alms bowl for eating and chewing food in the future. The place was Shravasti (Mnyan-yod, an ancient Indian city around the 6th century BC, now in Uttar Pradesh). The people were the group of six monks. The affliction was that which was not in accordance with the Dharma. The fault was taking the alms bowl for eating and chewing food in the future. Among these, the so-called "not taking the alms bowl for eating and chewing food in the future" means that as long as eating and chewing food have not manifested, one should learn not to take the alms bowl, so as to properly receive food. Here, the classification of the root downfall is that in the case of the root, if one does not learn in that way, it will become the root of an evil deed that should be confessed. The agent here is taking the alms bowl for eating and chewing food in the future, and the food itself. The branch here is one. That is, the accomplishment of the root. For the accomplishment of the preliminary and the preliminary of the preliminary, etc., one should rebuke as appropriate, and this is the same as before. The forty-fifth training is complete. Furthermore, one should learn not to cover vegetables with rice or rice with vegetables because of desire. The origin of this story is that the Blessed One Buddha was dwelling in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti (Mnyan-yod). In Shravasti (Mnyan-yod), a householder invited the Buddha and the Sangha of monks to another house for a meal. Because the householder had a lot of rice and little vegetables, the group of six monks covered the vegetables with rice. When the householder saw the rice, he said, "Venerables, is there no sour food?" They said, "Householder, look here." Then he gave other vegetables as well.
