He who possessed the wealth of Kumāra, there was one who rivaled the wealth of Vaiśravaṇa. He took a wife from his own lineage, and he played with her, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure. Then, a daughter was born to him, beautiful in form, pleasing to behold, and lovely. He raised her and she grew up. Then the householder Anāthapiṇḍada, the protector of the helpless, took her as a wife for his son with his wealth and fortune. The householder Jñānin played with her, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure. A final sentient being entered his wife's womb. From her birth came a boy, and his name was called 'Well-Come'. The boy Well-Come gradually went to Śrāvastī, to the presence of the Blessed One. The Blessed One ordained him in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, and he took full ordination. He was given instructions, and dwelling alone in solitude, diligent, persevering, and self-denying, he directly realized Arhatship. Then, the Blessed One, with the Saṅgha of monks, traveled to the sons of the evil-doing village, and arrived at Crocodile-Child-Killing Mountain. When the Blessed One was dwelling in the terrifying forest mountain of Crocodile-Child-Killing Mountain, the venerable Well-Come subdued the Naga named Āmra Water-Danger, who for a long time had held malice towards the innocent people dwelling on Crocodile-Child-Killing Mountain, seeking quarrels with those who did not contend, harboring hatred towards those who did not hate, and ruining the crops. Then, the Blessed One, with the Saṅgha of monks, returned to Kosala for wandering, and finally arrived at Śrāvastī. In Śrāvastī, he resided in the Jeta Grove, Anāthapiṇḍada's Garden. At that time, the householder Anāthapiṇḍada invited the Blessed One with the Saṅgha of monks to his house for a meal, and the Blessed One went there. The venerable Well-Come, while at Crocodile-Child-Killing Mountain, the householder Jñānin's young friend, a Brahmin named Snake-Mouth who threatened, fled to Śrāvastī out of fear of the Naga Āmra Water-Danger.

King Sala, King of Light, appointed the elephant driver as a minister. When he heard that the venerable Sula had subdued the dragon, he was overjoyed and invited him to his house for a meal. Then, the Brahmin, seeing that the venerable Sula was sitting comfortably, satisfied him with food. The Brahmin thought, "Sula may not be able to digest the food he has eaten." Then, he said to the venerable Sula, "Venerable Sula, are you full?" He said, "I am full." The Brahmin pointed his finger at the elephant driver's wine, stirred it in the bowl, and offered it to the venerable Sula. Arhats do not unintentionally know or see, so the venerable Sula drank it. After saying his thanks, he got up from his seat and left. He walked through the streets of Sravasti, the sunlight hitting his body, and because he was drunk, he fell to the ground. The Buddhas, the World Honored Ones, possess the nature of not forgetting. The World Honored One covered him there with a shelter that was not made of leaves. Then, the World Honored One, together with the Sangha of monks, went to the house of Anathapindika to receive offerings. After saying his thanks, he rose from his seat and went in that direction. Then, the World Honored One restrained the manifested miracle and said to the monks, "Monks, this is the monk Sula who subdued the dragon, the one by the Amra water's edge. Monks, what do you think? Can the monk Sula now subdue even a small snake?" The venerable one said, "He cannot pick up a stone." Monks, since this is the case, this fault and other faults arise from drinking intoxicating substances, so monks, those who claim to be my teachers should not drink or feed intoxicating substances, not even a dewdrop on a blade of grass. Then, the World Honored One awakened the venerable Sula and asked, "Sula, why have you become like this?" World Honored One, I did not know. Sugata, I did not know.
