Solto. Then, the Blessed One, having gathered the community of monks regarding this event, this basis, and this occasion, rebuked the group of six monks. He condemned in various ways their un-monastic conduct, their lack of conformity, their unsuitability, and their un-dharmic behavior, saying that it was not the work of renunciates. Having truly seen the ten benefits of establishing precepts, he said, "My hearers should recite and study the basis of discipline in this way: If many monks are invited to various houses for a meal, and if a nun says, 'Give this one some food, give this one some rice gruel, give this one some beans, give this one also give something.' If she is giving instructions like this, those monks should say to the nun, 'Sister, please wait a moment until the monks have finished eating.' If even one monk does not dare to say such a thing to the nun, then all those monks should go outside to the monastery and confess to the monks, saying, 'Venerable ones, we have committed an inappropriate act that should be confessed, we will each confess this offense.' They should each confess, and this precept should be established, saying, 'This offense should also be confessed individually.'" The place was Shravasti. The persons were many monks. The affliction was the inability to restrain. The offense was the nun not following the order, allowing her to distribute food at will without restraint. Among them, "many monks" means more than two. "Various houses" refers to the houses of Brahmins and householders. "Invited" means for food. "At the time of eating" refers to the five foods and the five condiments. Among them, "if there is a nun" refers to a stout woman or anyone else like that. "To the nun" refers to the stout woman or anyone else like that. "Those monks" refers to the monks who were present at that time. "Saying this" means that they should instruct in this way.

The term "to prevent" means that one should say, "Bhikkhunis, please be quiet for a while while the bhikkhus are eating." If not even one bhikkhu dares to say such a thing to the bhikkhuni, it means that if not even one bhikkhu has said such a thing to the bhikkhuni. The term "all those bhikkhus" refers to all the bhikkhus who are present at that time. The term "having gone to the outer monastery" means having gone to the temple outside the city. Venerable bhikkhus, because we have inappropriate offenses that should be confessed individually, we should confess these offenses individually, and therefore this offense should also be confessed individually, just as before. So, how does a downfall occur? Here, too, the characteristics of this offense should be understood through the main basis, the preparation, the establishment of the downfall through the preparation of the preparation, the absence of downfall, what should be learned, and the remedies. Here, the establishment of the downfall of the main basis is: in a house or monastery, temple, etc., all the householder donors are gathered, or those appointed by them prepare food, invite three or more bhikkhus to the meal, and at the time of eating, then, due to the words of the bhikkhuni, or her relatives invite a bhikkhu who is not offering paintings and allowing the giving of what has not been given, that one who causes the downfall of the bhikkhu, or says to the bhikkhu, "Please give this food, drink, grain, or food again and again," and participates in the persuasion, any bhikkhu who eats together, whether eating together or not eating together, whether oneself or another, whichever one, without advising, "Bhikkhunis, please wait a while while the bhikkhus are eating," if three or more bhikkhus eat by invitation, unless the words of advice are too far away to be heard, or there is no awareness of the advice at all, allowing random eating without restraint without being seated in order, then, this becomes the main basis for the offense of individual confession. Invited to the homes of Brahmins and householders, as well as monasteries.
