Now, each action is accompanied by a minor offense. Previously, not having experienced the Posadha ceremony twice results in a minor offense. At a time when the Posadha ceremony is not being performed, there is a minor offense. When nuns are performing the Posadha ceremony, there is a minor offense regarding shared objects of training. For those who possess the Sutra, there is a minor offense. The offense of an action's action is a minor offense, as many actions as there are, there are as many actions of action, the action, the action of an offense's action is also an offense, which is a minor offense. The absence of offense is that there is no offense for those whose minds are confused. When nuns are performing the Posadha ceremony, there is no offense regarding non-shared objects of training. There is no offense for beginners, the insane, the mentally disturbed, and those afflicted by feelings. What is to be learned is that a monk, in all places and at all times, regarding objects of training, should learn not to rely on all actions that would lead to transgression. When reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, listening without respect will be placed in repentance. Later corrections are the same as before. The eighty-third offense that leads to transgression regarding objects of training has been explained. The basis for the offense of mending torn clothes is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Shravasti (Śrāvastī, an ancient Indian city, now in Uttar Pradesh) in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. In Shravasti, there was a naked ascetic named Hearing Dharma (nyan thos chos), a bricklayer, who was very devoted to the naked ascetics. At another time, a monk named Good Giving (bsod snyoms pa) subdued him by teaching the Dharma, and he also took refuge in him and took the precepts. Then, this Good Giving monk extensively praised the seven bases of meritorious actions arising from material things, and he became very devoted and said, 'Venerable one, I will also correctly take and engage in a small portion of the bases of meritorious actions arising from material things. I will make offerings to the monastic community of monks with what I have made myself.' This Good Giving monk went to the monastery and said to the monks, 'Venerable ones, I will make offerings to that naked ascetic bricklayer named Hearing Dharma (nyan thos chos).'

After taking refuge and establishing the foundations of learning, they made offerings to the Sangha of monks. Let whoever wants to do it, do it. Soon, a monk did not have a needle case, so he went to him and said: "Virtuous one, I do not have a needle case, please make one for me." "Venerable one, what kind should I make? What is good?" "Venerable one, it is best to make it out of ivory." "Virtuous one, please make it out of ivory." He made a needle case out of ivory for him and gave it to him. That monk showed it to the other monks, and the other monks also had him make it. Others also had him make it, and others also had him make it, and as a result, his ivory was used up. Another monk also came and said: "Virtuous one, please make a needle case for me." "Venerable one, what kind should I make? What is good?" "Venerable one, if it is good to make it out of ivory, but the ivory is used up." "If you wish, I can make it out of bone." "Virtuous one, it doesn't matter, please make it." He made a needle case out of bone for him and gave it to him. That monk showed it to the other monks, and the other monks also had him make it. Others also had him make it, and others also had him make it, and as a result, his bone was also used up. Another monk also came and said: "Virtuous one, please make a needle case for me." "Venerable one, what kind should I make? What is good?" "Venerable one, if it is good to make it out of ivory, but the ivory is used up." "Virtuous one, if that is the case, then make it out of bone." "Venerable one, the bone is also used up. If you wish, I can make it out of horn." "Virtuous one, it doesn't matter, please make it." He made a needle case out of horn for him and gave it to him. That monk showed it to the other monks, and another monk also had him make it. Others also had him make it, and others also had him make it, and as a result, his horn was also used up. He became poor because he was doing work for the monks with his own food and utensils. The naked ascetics said: "When we had faith in this Dharma, all of this was very complete, but now these things are with the Shakya's son monks..."
