Do. Those transgressions and violations become mental misdeeds, which are misdeeds to be restrained, not misdeeds to be confessed. This is the concluding statement. To show the aspects that are in accordance with it, in the general summary, it says: Staying in one summer retreat, observing the Uposatha, including the Pravāraṇā, and so on, that is it. It is in accordance with the aspect of what has been taken. Signs, begging, and vessels, enjoyment, frivolity, and desire, harm and dwelling, disrespect, non-learning arise from the basis. Thus it is said. For one who has not taken full ordination but has become a renunciate, the aspects that are in accordance with the basis of the training that has been properly taken are as follows: vowing to stay in one summer retreat, observing the Uposatha, observing the Pravāraṇā, and so on. The word "so on" includes: signs, begging, and vessels, etc. Whatever arises from the forty, which are included in the aspects of misdeeds to be restrained, those are all included. What arises from the forty? What arises from the basis of signs, what arises from the basis of begging, what arises from the basis of vessels, what arises from the basis of enjoyment, what arises from the basis of frivolity, what arises from the basis of desire, what arises from the basis of harm, what arises from the basis of dwelling, what arises from the basis of disrespect, what arises from the basis of non-learning. Among these, what arises from the basis of signs means what arises from the basis of properly taking the signs of renunciation. In this case, holding the signs of non-Buddhists, just as holding the signs of householders, is transgressing the proper taking of the signs of renunciation. Therefore, it becomes a misdeed to be confessed. Things that are not suitable materials, such as those made from ewe's wool, or robes that are too small, and holding possessions that are too large, and not being allowed to trim nails, and appearances that become deteriorated, such as braiding hair, and shaving hair in ways that are not allowed, are in accordance with the aspect of taking the signs, and therefore become misdeeds to be restrained. The alms bowl is also not suitable.

Holding, and other renunciates who walk for alms, holding a bowl similar to the marks of householders, this is transgressing the properly taken precepts. Therefore, this constitutes an offense to be confessed. Made of other materials such as copper, or too small or too large in size, and holding a gray bowl, these are in accordance with the marks that have been taken, so this constitutes an offense to be restrained. The so-called "arising from the source of begging" means arising from the source of begging for necessities. Therefore, if one begs for precious things such as gold and silver, this itself is transgressing the properly taken precept of abandoning the holding of gold and silver, so this constitutes an offense to be confessed. Begging for Dharma robes and so on is in accordance with this, so this constitutes an offense to be restrained. The so-called "arising from the source of containers" means arising from the source of making containers such as needles and knives. Therefore, if one has needles and knives made of precious materials made, this itself is transgressing the properly taken precept of abandoning the holding of gold and silver, so this constitutes an offense to be confessed. Making needle cases and so on made of materials other than those permitted, such as ivory, is in accordance with this, so this constitutes an offense to be restrained. The so-called "arising from the source of enjoyment" means arising from the source of enjoyment such as food and drink. Therefore, eating at the wrong time, and drinking intoxicating liquor made from grains and concoctions, these are transgressing the properly taken precept of abandoning the place of carelessness, so this constitutes an offense to be confessed. Eating garlic and so on is in accordance with this, so this constitutes an offense to be restrained. The so-called "arising from the source of frivolousness" means arising from the source of frivolousness such as dwellings and song and dance. Therefore, using large mats and high bedding on the road, and the sounds of song and dance and music, and colors and incense, and ointments and so on, these are transgressing the properly taken precept of abandoning these.
