May those women who have prepared alms for us be free from illness! The monks said: Do you knowingly eat food prepared by nuns? The group of six said: Some can be eaten, and some cannot be eaten. Are we to starve to death? After saying this, those monks with few desires scolded: Why do you monks eat food prepared by nuns? They also slandered and spoke harshly. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, regarding this incident, this origin, and this situation, gathered the monastic community of monks and rebuked the group of six, saying: Your behavior is not like that of a renunciant, it is not in accordance with the Dharma, it is not permissible, it is not in accordance with the rules, and a renunciant should not do such things! The Blessed One criticized them in many ways and saw the ten benefits of establishing precepts. Therefore, my disciples should recite and study the basis of the precepts as follows: If any monk knowingly eats food prepared by a nun, he commits a transgression. The Blessed One established this precept. The place was Śrāvastī. The people were the group of six. The affliction was greed for food. The offense was eating food prepared by a nun. The origin of establishing the precept was that the Buddha, the Blessed One, was residing in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Śrāvastī. In Śrāvastī, there lived a householder who engaged in two kinds of work: commerce and agriculture. He plowed the fields of the monastery and sowed seeds, then built a hut by the field and went to other places with his goods. A mendicant monk, while traveling, arrived in Śrāvastī. As he wandered there, he saw a hut by the field and thought: This place is secluded, it is suitable to live here. So he began to live there, begging for alms in Śrāvastī and settling there. There, people rarely came, even deer and birds rarely came, and the gods also regularly sent down rain, so that field

Then, (the crops) became very abundant. That householder's affairs were also successfully completed, and he returned auspiciously and peacefully. After that, the householder hid his wealth, washed up, and after eating, his wife said, 'Son of the king, you sowed seeds in that field of the monastery and are about to go to another place, please see if at least the cost of the seeds can be recovered.' The householder went there, and when he saw that the crops in that field were very abundant, he thought, 'I have neither weeded here, nor left any guards, what is the reason that the crops in this field are so abundant?' So he patrolled there, saw human footprints, and followed the footprints to that hut. When he saw a mendicant bhikkhu sitting there in a lotus position, he thought, 'The crops in this field are so abundant, it must be due to his merit.' So he said, 'Venerable one, do you live in this hut?' He said, 'Yes, I am the householder.' The householder said, 'Venerable one, this field is mine, please feel free to enjoy the flowers, fruits, and tender branches. Venerable one, would you please come to my humble abode tomorrow to receive alms?' After inviting him in this way, he returned home and had his wife prepare clean and delicious food. At that time, the bhikkhuni Thullananda, in the morning, put on her skirt, took her bowl and robes, and went to Shravasti to beg for alms. She gradually begged for alms and came to that house, saying, 'Auspicious mistress, please give alms.' The householder's wife said, 'Reverend Mother, I have invited a mendicant, it would be bad to interrupt the offering, please wait a moment.' Thullananda said, 'If she brings that mendicant, will you give alms to me?' She said, 'Yes.' Thullananda thought, 'Other bhikkhus will come out from there after begging for alms, whoever enters first is the mendicant.' So she went to the city gate and sat down. That mendicant also thought, 'Today I don't need to beg for alms, I should do good deeds and know the time.'

Thinking that he should do so and leave, he knew the time and put on his lower garment in the morning. Taking his bowl and robes, he began to enter Shravasti for alms. Then, Svamdagamo saw him and thought: This almsman is the one. So he asked him: Venerable, were you not invited to a certain place called Stumba? Did you borrow Sidmo? Venerable, I will praise you in your house. He said: Sister, did I ever tell you to praise me? Venerable, you did not say so. The almsman thought: This must be food arranged by a bhikkhuni. If I cut off my food, then I will fall into hell along with the fall, which is not right. So he began to return. Svamdagamo said: Venerable, I do not know your lineage or your name, so I hope to praise you. The almsman said: Sister, if your previous words are true, then the latter words are false; if the latter words are true, then the former words are false. Having said that, he returned to that hut, and as long as the fatigue in his body had not disappeared, he focused on the good side. When the fatigue in his body disappeared, he put down his head and slept. Other almsmen came and said to him: Do you think that the food is someone else's and the stomach is someone else's? For as long as he put down his head and slept, he ate food. Who ate it? You ate it. I did not eat it. Then why did you put down your head and sleep? He told the bhikkhus in detail about the situation at that time, and the bhikkhus reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Therefore, except for those who were invited at home before. After that, the Blessed One praised those who wanted to learn, respected learning, and reduced the supplies for learning, and spoke to the bhikkhus about the Dharma that was in accordance with this, mostly related to this, and corresponding to this. The Blessed One said to the bhikkhus: Bhikkhus, therefore, the former is prohibited, and this is permitted. My Shravakas should recite the basis of learning the Vinaya in this way: Furthermore, a bhikkhu
