Does. Causes to be fully held. Causes to be fully praised. Causes to be fully rejoiced. Then the Bhikshuni Sthulananda, in the morning, put on her lower garment, took her bowl and Dharma robe, and entered Shravasti for alms. Gradually wandering for alms, she entered that house and said: "Auspicious one, Aroga, please give alms." The householder said: "Reverend Mother, today I have respectfully invited the great Kashyapa, who is worshiped by gods and humans, and I am preparing a meal for him, so please wait a moment." Sthulananda said: "That is another non-Buddhist renunciate, dull, extremely dull, small, extremely small, while I am a renunciate from the daughter of Shakya, possessing the three pitakas, proclaiming the Dharma, possessing confidence in reason and liberation. You prepare food for them, but you do not give me alms." The venerable Mahakashyapa heard this, and having heard it, he thought: "If many non-meritorious things arise for her because of this, that would not be good." Then he made a sound of clearing his throat, and since the venerable Mahakashyapa possessed a Brahma-like voice, that sound filled the entire house. Sthulananda, having heard that sound, said: "The one with the name of Naga is staying here." The householder, having heard that, said: "Now you say that, now you say this," and began to scold her and was about to strike her. Sthulananda, having heard that loud sound, was frightened and fled. He said: "Bald-headed Shramani, do not run away, stay! You must not enter my house." Sthulananda said: "May your house become a latrine and a prison! May outcastes enter your house! We have obtained permission from the king to renounce the retinue of consorts, and as much as I know, I will have your two hands cut off from the elbows." The householder said: "Bald-headed Shramani, Bhikshuni Elder Nun, the Elder Nuns have obtained permission from the king to renounce the retinue of consorts, but you, who wander everywhere in bad places, have not obtained it."

Then, that householder returned and offered the Venerable Great Maudgalyayana, who was holding an umbrella, a drink. The Venerable Great Maudgalyayana taught him the Dharma. Then, he went before the Blessed One, prostrated at his feet with his head, and said: "Venerable, if the Blessed One allows me to join the Sangha today, then I can ordain from other non-Buddhists today, becoming the most dull, the most young. I can also be called 'Dragon Name' today. Venerable, I have long been a dweller in monasteries, and I praise those who dwell in monasteries; I am a beggar, and I praise beggars; I am a holder of a duster, and I praise holders of dusters. Maudgalyayana, you have truly seen the truth of things in this way. Venerable, there are two purposes: for my own happiness in this life, and so that future people will not slander. Maudgalyayana, you have long been bringing benefit to many beings, bringing happiness to many beings, filled with love for the world, acting for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans, well done, well done! Maudgalyayana, if someone speaks disparagingly of those qualities of practice, that is speaking disparagingly of me; if someone speaks praisingly of those qualities of practice, that is speaking praisingly of me. Why is that? Because I have long praised, respected, commended, and highly commended those qualities of practice. Maudgalyayana, therefore, you are a dweller in monasteries, and you praise those who dwell in monasteries; you are a beggar, and you praise beggars; you are a holder of a duster, and you praise holders of dusters. You should learn in this way. This is something that happened temporarily. The Buddha Blessed One will not temporarily establish the basis of learning for the Shravakas in the Vinaya for taming. The origin of the precepts is that the Buddha Blessed One was in Jeta's Grove in Anathapindika's Park in Shravasti.

They were residing in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park. Then, a time of scarcity occurred, and Brahmins and faithful householders were providing alms to the monastic elders. The group of six monks, having put on their lower robes in the morning, and carrying their bowls and monastic robes, went to Shravasti for alms, and then went to the group of twelve nuns. They said, "Venerable ones, please sit and partake of the meal. Who will give alms?" "We will offer it." The group of six monks said, "Sisters, we cannot survive on just that. If those Brahmins and faithful householders who provide alms to the monastic elders were to give it for our sake, then we would be able to survive." Then, the nun Thullananda, having put on her lower robes in the morning, and carrying her bowl and monastic robes, went to Shravasti for alms, and went to those houses where the venerable Ajnata Kondanna and the monastic elders were being given alms, and said this: "Whose alms are you providing?" They said, "To the venerable Ajnata Kondanna and the monastic elders." Thullananda said, "If you provide alms to those who have gone forth from the Shakya clan, who possess the three baskets, who proclaim the Dharma, who have the courage of reason and liberation, then you will have great merit." They said, "Who are they?" Thullananda said, "The venerable Ananda, Nanda, Chanda, Charaka, Gochaka, and Navaso." They said, "We will do so." They then directed the alms that were intended for the venerable Ajnata Kondanna and the monastic elders to be given to the group of six monks. The group of six monks, having put on their lower robes in the morning, and carrying their bowls and monastic robes, went to Shravasti for alms. The monks, seeing them coming with bowls filled with alms, said, "Alas, the group of six monks have accepted designated alms!" The group of six monks said, "What?
