There is no transgression in showing in the monasteries and houses on the outskirts of villages. There is no transgression for beginners, the intoxicated, the mentally disturbed, and those threatened by sensory masters. What is to be learned is that a bhikṣu should learn not to rely on all forms of actions that lead to showing until sunset in all places and at all times. One should learn not to show outside of villages and monasteries. The remedy is the same as before. The twenty-second transgression of showing until sunset has been explained. The basis for the transgression of showing for a small amount of food is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's monastery in Shravasti. The Bhagavan said to the venerable Nanda: Nanda, go and visit the bhikṣuṇīs, show to the bhikṣuṇīs, speak to the bhikṣuṇīs with Dharma-related words. Then, the bhikṣuṇī Mahā Prajāpatī Gautamī with her five hundred attendants and the venerable Nanda went there. Having arrived, they bowed their heads at the feet of the venerable Nanda and sat on one side. Then, the venerable Nanda taught them the Dharma with profound meanings, words, and letters. Women are unable to understand hints because of their deficient wisdom, and they are unable to ask questions because of fear. Then, Mahā Prajāpatī Gautamī went before the Bhagavan and reported as such. The Bhagavan said: Giving is the cause of fearlessness, therefore the bhikṣuṇīs should please the bhikṣus with the five plants—roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits—and the five foods—rice, hot porridge, dough, meat, and oil—as well as bowls, Dharma robes, nets, bowls, spoons, whips, spoon strings, and bells. Then, some bhikṣuṇīs brought milk porridge, some brought yogurt porridge, and some brought honey sugar, and came to Jeta Grove to offer it to the venerable Nanda. Neye Dags saw it and said: Neye Dags.

If such places are found, then one will always preach to the bhikkhunis. I, the venerable Nanda, think of preaching to the bhikkhunis with the good Dharma, not for the sake of a little food. After saying this, those monks with few desires rebuked the monks, saying: 'Monks, they say they preach to the bhikkhunis for the sake of a little food.' They rebuked, slandered, and ridiculed. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, because of this event, this origin, and this cause, the Blessed One convened the Sangha of monks and rebuked Nanda, saying: 'This is not the behavior of a renunciant, it is not in accordance, it is not appropriate, it is not in accordance with the Dharma, this is not something that a renunciant should do.' After rebuking in various ways, the Blessed One truly saw the ten benefits of establishing the training, therefore my hearers should recite the root of learning in the Vinaya like this: 'If any monk says to the monks: Monks, they preach to the bhikkhunis for the sake of a little food, he commits a half-offense.' The Blessed One established this precept. The place was Shravasti. The person was Nanda. The affliction was jealousy. The offense was rebuke. Among these, 'any monk' refers to Nanda, the son of the Shakyas, or anyone else like him. 'To the monks' refers to these holders of the Dharma. 'Saying this' refers to saying these words. 'Monks' refers to these holders of the Dharma. 'For the sake of a little food' refers to the five requisites and the five foods. 'To the bhikkhunis' refers to these holders of the Dharma. 'Preaching' refers to the superior discipline, the superior mind, and the superior wisdom. 'Commits a half-offense' refers to the same as before. So, how does one commit an offense? Here, one should also understand its characteristics through the actual deed, the preparation, the preparation of the preparation to determine the offense, as well as the non-offense, what should be learned, and the methods of rectification. Among these, here the determination of the offense of the actual deed is:
