They become mindful of the Sugata's teachings. Thus, through joy, effort, and exertion, they attain increasingly superior mental engagement, thereby understanding the five aggregates of samsara's revolving and non-revolving nature. All aspects of conditioned phenomena are subdued by the nature of decay, decline, disintegration, and destruction, and having abandoned all afflictions. Therefore, sons of good families, for what reason do they shave their hair and beards, don the ochre robes, and with pure faith, go forth from home into homelessness, practicing the unsurpassed culmination of the pure conduct? It is to realize and directly experience in this very life, through their own direct knowledge, and to understand: birth is exhausted, the pure conduct has been established, what needed to be done has been done, there is no more future existence. The Arhat has become detached from desire in the three realms, regarding clods of dirt and gold as equal, with a mind like space and the palm of the hand, undifferentiated. Like aged sandalwood, wisdom has pierced the shell of the egg, attaining wisdom, clairvoyance, and individual self-realization. Turning their backs on worldly gains, desires, and reverence, they become objects of offering, remembrance, and praise by the gods, including those with and without power. Everywhere, the sound resounds that the Bhagavan has opened up the small path. Jivaka, the young physician of Rajagriha, hearing this, thought: If the Bhagavan were to come to Rajagriha, apart from the Venerable Lampa, I would invite the Buddha and the Sangha of monks to another place, offering umbrellas and food. Other knowledgeable non-Buddhists said: This Gautama monk says: My Dharma is profound, appears profound, is difficult to see, delights in realization, is inconceivable, is not within the realm of speculation, and after detailed examination, is to be understood by the wise and intelligent. Like this, even the smallest and most subtle things like the small path can be opened up, how can his Dharma be profound? They then began to slander, mock, and speak abusively. The Bhagavan's intention is the Shravakas.
