Holy ones, I took a lot of grass from afar and spread out mats for the sake of wandering ascetics and Brahmins who had suddenly arrived. You, who practice the same as Brahma, have arrived, and they slept there, and as soon as it dawned, without asking me, they abandoned those mats in an unclean place and left.' Those monks got up early in the morning and left. That Brahmin, because he was going with the merchant companion, also slept that night on the cushions that the monks had used. There, a naked ascetic was bitten severely by lice, and he said: Who slept on this cushion? Not far from there, that Brahmin was sleeping, and he said: It was the monks of the Shakya clan. They said: The self-proclaimed wise ascetics of the Shakya clan, who consider themselves wise in the world, do not even know about discarding cushions in a monastery like this. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Grass cushions should also be discarded in a monastery. After the Blessed One instructed that grass cushions should also be discarded in a monastery, many monks, together with a merchant companion, were traveling, and stayed at a monastery.
