If, due to forgetfulness, one has missed or gone past a long road and then remembers, one should generate the thought that one will not do this again in the future, and one should also say it in words. If one encounters a monk returning from the road, one should entrust it to him. Having promised to deliver it is the very thing to do. If one has left the dwelling and sees that one will not encounter danger, one should tidy up the dwelling. If the dwelling has become dirty, one should shake it out. A borrowed dwelling should be returned upon departure. If the time is not right and one sees that one will encounter danger, one should entrust it to another. To whom should one entrust it? To a monk. If there is no monk, then to a novice. If there is no novice either, then to a householder. If there is no one at all, one should look in all four directions and then hide the key and leave. If one sees a monk on the road, one should tell him the situation. If, upon returning, one is invited to another's house as a guest and the door is closed, one should place a cushion near the wall or under a tree and then enter. Monks, the cushions related to the monastery in that other house to which one is invited as a guest may be lent out. Monks, one should not send those cushions back from that other house oneself. Sending the dwelling back from another's house to the monastery is the work of householders and novices. If there are no householders or novices, one should entrust it to a householder for the sake of sending it back and inform them. If the householders say that they will send it, one should leave it and depart. If they do not send it, then the lay attendants should take care of it. If there are no lay attendants, then the elders and monks should take it back themselves. If all the monks need to take it back, one should strike the ghanta (a bell used to mark time in a monastery). If patrons come to the monastery and borrow cushions for their own purposes, one should lend them out. In order to protect these cushions, one should also place a monk on guard. The monk placed on guard should have the householders sit in one place, not allowing them to be distracted by eating, drinking, and idle chatter. He himself should also do his own work, whatever it may be, such as meditation, recitation, reading, or questioning. He should pay attention to those cushions and keep his eyes wide open. When the patrons leave, one should

Those cushions should be shaken. If the cushions are soiled by laypeople, they should be cleaned by the disciplinarian, etc. If soiled by alcohol, they should be washed with clean water. If soiled by oil, they should be cleaned with alkali. If soiled by impurities, they should be scrubbed with earth, natron, or heavy objects. Fabrics made of hemp, etc., if unclean, should not be cut; if they cannot be cleaned with natron, they should be cut off and discarded, and re-sewn with clean hemp. Whichever cushions laypeople are sitting on, if one sees them sitting without shaking them, then whichever monk sees them should shake them. If the one who sees is old or ill, he should inform the disciplinarian and have him shake them. All the monks belonging to that area who are not ill should attend to the sick person. One should sit beside the sick person and attend to him. The one attending to the sick person should not leave carrying his own cushion. The sick person's attendant should spread out the cushions there. If the Khenpo or Acharya goes to an auspicious place, if others do not increase the auspiciousness, the disciples and attendants should follow behind. If the disciple or attendant does not say, "I will also go later," he should not hand the cushion to the Khenpo or Acharya. The cushions taken away by the disciples, etc., should be returned by the Acharya, etc., themselves. When listening to the Dharma without a covering, if wind and rain come, one should shake one's own cushion. The seats of the elderly are higher and larger than those of the younger generation, and because they are heavy, if one cannot shake them oneself, one should exchange the work of shaking with the younger ones. Seats should be placed together with similar seats; round ones with round ones, long ones with long ones, beds, etc., with beds, etc., should be placed together. If in other monasteries the monks obtain cushions and offerings, they should be handed over by the monks standing in the Sangha. If at that time there is no rain and no danger of rain, they should be handed over. If wind and rain come on the road, one should take shelter under a tree or by a wall. The place of shelter should be covered by the guardians with something bad. After arriving at the monastery, the items should be dried.
