I, Sagal, went there. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, by the nature of Dharma, to the monks who beg for alms, how do the monks beg for food? Is the Sangha of monks satisfied? With this, they rejoice individually. The Bhagavat, to the monks who beg for alms, how do the monks beg for food? Is the Sangha of monks satisfied? With this, they rejoice individually. He reported: Venerable one, food was begged at Deva, and the Sangha of monks was satisfied. Then, the Bhagavat, having finished the meal, washed his feet behind the monastery, and entered the monastery for the sake of entering into meditation. Then, the Bhagavat, in the afternoon, arose from meditation, and sat on the seat that was prepared in the midst of the Sangha of monks. Having sat down, the Bhagavat said to the monks: Monks, I knew that the Sangha of monks had left here not long ago, and taking the key, from garden to garden, from monastery to monastery, from house to house, from promenade to promenade, wandering everywhere, gradually progressing. I arrived at a monastery in a large house, and there, I saw that in the monastery of the large house, many dwellings were uncovered, and untimely dark clouds were gathering. Having seen this, I exclaimed "Alas!" and rebuked it. I thought: Brahmins and faithful patrons squeeze skin, flesh, and blood, give squeezed offerings, perform meritorious deeds, but the monks enjoy without knowing the warmth or cold, without distinguishing. Monks, you should enjoy the offerings given by faith moderately, enjoy after abandoning, enjoy in time, enjoy after examining, enjoy in small amounts, that would be good. Then, the Bhagavat praised moderate, abandoning, timely, examining, and small enjoyment, and having truly observed the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, my disciples...

Therefore, the basis for the training of the monks should be proclaimed as follows: If any monk, without arranging or having someone arrange the Sangha's bed, small bed, seat, blanket, pillow, or cushion, spreads it out or places it here, or does not tidy up, or does not have someone tidy up, and leaves without entrusting it to a monk, it is a downfall. The place was Shravasti. The people were many monks. The afflictions were not knowing hot and cold, and enjoying without discrimination. The fault was that many dwellings were left uncovered. The occasion for permission was when the Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti. Many monks were traveling with a caravan and arrived at a rocky mountain. They began to look for a place to stay on that rocky mountain. There was a monastery on that rocky mountain, and someone said to them: Venerables, do you not stay in the monastery? They replied: No, because we depend on the caravan. If we stay in the monastery, the caravan will abandon us and leave. The person said: Venerables, please enter the monastery and rest, and when the caravan is about to depart, I will inform you. They entered the monastery, arranged their dwellings, and went to sleep. The next day, the caravan departed, and the last ox was loaded. Then that person went to those monks and said: Venerables, the caravan has departed, please hurry! While they were still stretching their arms, discarding toothpicks, and tidying up their dwellings, the caravan had already gone far away. They followed after them, and as a result, they were robbed by thieves. Eventually, they arrived at the monastery. The monks saw them and said: Venerables, welcome, welcome! Did you travel in peace? Venerables, we traveled in peace, but what happened? Venerables, we were robbed by thieves. That was the situation at that time.

The monks petitioned the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: It should be entrusted to the resident monks. After the Blessed One said that it should be entrusted to the resident monks, there were two householders in Shravasti who harbored resentment towards each other, one with faith and one without faith. The one with faith thought: What is the use of just fighting? It is better to settle the dispute and then go forth. Thinking this, he went to Jeta Grove and went forth under a monk. The most faithless householder heard from someone that he had gone forth in Jeta Grove and said: Is that the Fearless City? I will go there and harm him. The monk heard this and went to Rajagriha, and he (the faithless householder) also pursued him. The monk went in due time and not out of due time, but the householder went both in due time and out of due time, so the monk entered a temple in a rocky mountain, and the householder saw him. The monk got up early in the morning and arranged lodging for the monks, and the monks said: O long-lived one, this road is dangerous, do not go from here. This is another road, go from there. After he went from that road, the householder caught up with him and beat him severely, breaking his bowl and tearing his Dharma robes, and finally left him half-dead, and then he returned to that temple, and the monks said: O long-lived one, why have you become like this? He told the monks in detail about this situation, and also said: If I had not done as the long-lived ones had instructed, I would not have become like this. While he was saying this, the monks petitioned the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Except for such a cause. Then the Blessed One praised the desire to learn, the respect for learning, and the reduction of the necessities for learning, and then spoke to the monks teachings that were in accordance with this, mostly the same as this, and in accordance with this, endowed with the Dharma, and then
