The ninth (chapter) has been explained. The origin of the downfall of walking with a woman is that the Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Anathapindika's Garden in Jeta Grove in Shravasti. In Rajagriha, there was a man named Tagapa Jeker, who took a daughter of a Tagapa from Shravasti as his wife. He often beat that daughter with his fists and palms. Once, Tagapa Jeker got drunk in a tavern and went back to his house, where he severely beat the daughter and fell asleep. The daughter, realizing that the Tagapa was asleep, ran out through the first door. A monk, having vowed to spend the summer retreat in Rajagriha, was going to Shravasti to pay homage to the Bhagavan. He also came out through the first door and left. The daughter saw the monk and said: Venerable, where are you going? The monk said: Sister, I am going to Shravasti. I am also going to Shravasti, may I go with the Venerable? So be it. The daughter began to walk with the monk. After a while, Tagapa Jeker woke up from his drunkenness and, finding the daughter missing, went and asked the gatekeeper: Hey, steward, did a girl go out from this gate? The gatekeeper said: She went out through the first door and left. The Tagapa climbed onto the roof and looked out, and seeing that she had gone far away, he quickly came down and chased after her. After a while, he saw her walking with a monk and thought: I am alone, and they are two. If I catch them, they will turn around and beat me. Such a situation will occur, so I should go and call for help. So, he went near a rock where about five hundred weavers were sitting and said to them: Gentlemen, my wife has been stolen by a Shramana of the Shakya clan, please help me! In this way, he asked them for help. Those weavers were all ignorant people, so they took about five hundred weaving shuttles and came out of the rock, and they severely beat the monk, causing him to fall to the ground.

Now they also beat, they beat the bowls and water pots, they tore the robes, thinking he should die, and threw them away. That girl said to that monk: "Venerable ones, you have obtained permission from the king to renounce the youth, you should go to the royal palace and report, and ask to cut off the hands and feet of these people." Those people were afraid and begged that monk for forgiveness, and because the monk was like their heart, he forgave them. That girl said: "Even if you, venerable one, forgive, I will not forgive." Those people begged that girl for forgiveness again, and that girl said: "I can forgive you, but I cannot forgive this naked weaver, I will cut off his hands and feet." Those people said: "Forgive him too." That girl said: "If you don't beat me in the future, then I will forgive." That monk eventually went to Shravasti, and the monks said to him: "Venerable one, welcome, welcome. How did you get through safely? Venerable one, how did you get through safely? I was beaten half to death by the weavers, and I offered my life and property." Why did he explain that situation in detail, and the monks said: "You don't have a man to accompany you, can you walk on the road with a woman? It is precisely because it is not allowed that such a fault has occurred." Some monks with few desires, because the monks did not have a man to accompany them, scolded him for walking on the road with a woman, accused him, and insulted him. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, because of this incident, this origin, this situation, the Blessed One convened the Sangha of monks, and rebuked that monk, saying: "This is not the conduct of a Shramana, it is not in accordance, it is not lawful, it is not in accordance with the rules, this is not something that a renunciant should do!" He rebuked him in various ways. Because he truly saw the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, my Shravaka disciples should recite and learn the root of the training in this way: If any monk walks on the road with a woman without a man to accompany him, even to a village
