There is no insulting answer. There is no insult in the place of contemplation. There is no insulting answer for doing things for oneself and others. The agent of this is the thought of killing, and the sentient beings belonging to the animal realm. For this, it becomes a root downfall with five branches: the thought of killing, the movement of animals, recognizing them there, striking, and death. Among those, if the branches are incomplete, then insults are made according to the situation. The downfall of the application is an evil deed, as long as one starts to create the application of the downfall of killing animals, until the ultimate reality is reached, it is an evil deed. For the root, for each different application created, there is a corresponding evil deed. If there is no recognition there, and offering life, then it is an evil deed. If one causes it to die, but fails to kill it, then it is an evil deed. If one causes it to die, and then reverses it, it is also an evil deed. If one causes it to die, and even if one reverses it, it does not succeed and it dies, it is also an evil deed. Because of being close to the womb, among the mother and the one residing in the womb, if one of them dies unintentionally, then it is an evil deed. If one joins in killing and accepts it, then it is an evil deed. Saying "Giving the tools of death in your name", if one accepts it, then it is an evil deed. If an animal says "I am going to die", if one does not believe it and accomplishes it as such, then it is an evil deed. If a sick animal dies, and one does not serve it saying "It is the Lama's", then it is an evil deed. Giving unsuitable things such as swallowed food and medicine, then it is an evil deed. Putting animals in pits, or squeezing them with door bolts, etc., causing them pain, then it is an evil deed. For the appearance of a sentient being, if it is not a sentient being, then it is an evil deed. The downfall of the application of the application is a subtle evil deed, as many applications as there are, there are as many applications, the application of the application of evil deeds is also an evil deed, it is a subtle evil deed. The situation where there is no downfall is when the animal dies before me, or if we die together, then there is no fault, because there is no arising of karma in other lifetimes. For the beginner, the madman, the disturbed mind, and those afflicted by past lives, there is no downfall. What should be learned is that a monk, in all places and in all circumstances, should learn not to rely on all forms of behavior that lead to the downfall of killing animals.

One should not entertain thoughts of death towards sick animals, nor should one assist in bringing about death. One who does not know how to care for sick animals should not be left to care for them without being informed of the danger of death. If there is another who knows how to care for sick animals, one who does not know should not be left in charge. One should not place the implements of death near sick animals. If a sick animal is near death, the caretaker should try to save it. One should not mentally approve of improper actions such as causing abortion. One should not wish for an animal to die in order to obtain its property. Regarding inquiring about medicine for animals, one should not administer medicine to sick animals without consulting a doctor, a renunciate, one who uses medicine, or an elder monk. One should not help an animal carry a load that it cannot bear. If it is necessary to do so for some reason, laypeople should lift it together, making a sound in unison. When placing it down, they should also make a sound together and place it down in unison. One should not force a sick animal to travel on a road when it is unable to do so. The remedy is the same as before. The offense of killing animals, the sixty-first, has been explained. The basis for the offense of generating regret is as follows: The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana's son, along with his attendants and others, ordained a group of seventeen young men from Sarpa's birth and took full ordination. At that time, they relied on, attended to, and revered the group of six. Then, the venerable Acharka said to the group of seventeen, "Group of seventeen, come here! Do this and this!" They said, "Are you our teacher? Are you our preceptor? Why don't you do it?" Acharka said, "Foolish ones, then what else do you do?" Saying this, he grabbed them by the necks and threw them outside. They said, "Venerable ones, any contempt we have shown towards the group of six is because we have heard too little, and now we will go to learn more."

Therefore, from now on, there will be no need to ask the group of six anything at all. They went to a certain monk and said: 'Venerable one, please teach us.' He replied: 'This is a method.' Then, they began to study with him. The lay followers said: 'Venerable Charka, the group of seventeen no longer rely on us, no longer associate with us, and no longer respect us.' I drove them away and began to memorize in that way. 'Venerable Charka, you struck our sleeping servants with a whip.' As long as those foolish, unlearned ones rely on us, associate with us, and respect us. When they become learned, proficient in the sutras, the vinaya, and the abhidharma, and are cunning and oppressive to others, then they will think of harming us.' Charka said: 'I must make it so that they will never be able to memorize, and even completely fall away from memorization.' Then, he went to them and said: 'Hey, group of seventeen, are you exerting yourselves very diligently?' They replied: 'Yes, we are exerting ourselves.' 'What are you doing with diligence?' 'Memorizing.' 'What will happen by memorizing?' 'We will become learned.' 'What will happen by becoming learned?' 'The faculties will become fully mature.' 'What will happen by the faculties becoming fully mature?' 'We will enter the right path and the defilements will cease.' 'Will you enter the right path and will the defilements cease? Venerable Charka, have we committed the five heinous crimes, or have we severed the roots of virtue?' 'You have neither committed the five heinous crimes, nor have you severed the roots of virtue. However, have you not heard that the Blessed One said that if a monk ordains someone who is not yet twenty years old as a monk, then that person will not be ordained, and those monks will also be condemned? You were ordained before you were twenty years old, will you enter the right path and will the defilements cease?' Having heard this, their minds were filled with doubt and unease, and their teachers...
