Having understood that it would be done that way, he stretched out his hand like an elephant's trunk, seized Rahula, and laid him down to sleep in his own sleeping chamber. It is not the custom, nor is it an opportunity, for the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, to sleep in the same place with those who have not received full ordination. Therefore, the Bhagavat mostly spent the night walking in the sky and sitting. The elder monks rose before the sick and came to bow their heads at the feet of the Bhagavat. Then, the venerable Awakener awakened the venerable Rahula with the sound of a wooden fish. Then, the Bhagavat said to the monks: Monks, these novices have no mother, no father, no other loving and friendly community; you alone are the practitioners of pure conduct. These are those who possess the seed of an Arhat. If you do not protect them, who will protect them? Monks, therefore it is permitted to sleep in the same place with those who have not received full ordination for up to two nights. A monk contracted dysentery and felt uncomfortable in the dark, and the Bhagavat said: Therefore, a light should be lit. One may also sleep there. The monks who care for the sick may also sleep there. Those who give and receive help who have not received full ordination may also sleep there. The sick, those who care for the sick, and those who give and receive help may also sleep there on the third night. The food given and received by the caretaker may be eaten by the sick or the caretaker themselves. Both the old and the young may eat. The elder monks should be cared for by the younger monks and those who have not received full ordination, and food should also be given. The elder monks should do the same for those who have not received full ordination and the younger monks. The light of the moon and the sun are not things to be discussed, so one may sleep there. Having slept in the same place with those who have not received full ordination for two nights, one should not be driven out of the temple and the corridor on the third night, but should depart in this way like a school of fish. If those who have not promised to remain

Therein, if a sinful bhikshu comes and harms a shramanera, he should be expelled. If he cannot be expelled, the shramanera should be taken to another monastery. If among those who have vowed to stay, a sinful bhikshu comes and harms a shramanera, he should be expelled. If he cannot be expelled, the shramanera should be placed in the care of a friendly bhikshu. If there is no friendly bhikshu, they should spend two months together in one place. After deliberation, if that sinful bhikshu can be expelled, he should be expelled. If he cannot, the shramanera should be taken to another monastery. When the bhikshus want to travel, if the shramanera also goes along, then on the third night, the guest should not stay outside the sangharama, but it should be divided into two sangharamas and placed in one. If the sangharama is short of manpower, it should not be divided into two, and the bhikshus should not sleep, but should take turns guarding. If the bhikshus become tired, they can take turns guarding for three shifts, two shifts, one shift, or even until dawn. Even if they are still tired, they can sleep, and they should not regret this. When a bhikshu is walking on the road and the shramanera becomes delirious due to drowsiness, he should be sent ahead to walk. There, if the shramanera becomes thirsty, he should be given rice porridge in the morning. Shramaneras have a greater element of fire, so if they are hungry even at noon, food should be given at that time as well. The basis of the precepts is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden. The Bhagavan said: A bhikshu should not sleep with a person who has not been fully ordained, nor should he sleep in the open. After saying this, Near Delight had two shramaneras named Thorn and Great One, and he slept with those two in the same place for more than two nights. The bhikshus said to him: Venerable Near Delight, the Bhagavan has said that a bhikshu should not sleep in the same place with a person who has not been fully ordained for more than two nights, but you are with a person who has not been fully ordained for more than two nights.
