Those who should teach and correct should understand the definition of this (root offense). Here, regarding the classification of root offenses, if monks, with the intention of harming another monk, except for the purpose of healing illness, deliberately intend to have a lay donor cut off offerings through verbal persuasion, then it will constitute the root offense of causing the cutting off of offerings. Cutting off offerings for a monk for the purpose of healing illness is without fault. Deliberately intending with the thought of contention is without fault. The donor being a layperson is without fault. Cutting off offerings through verbal persuasion is without fault. The one whose offerings are to be cut off being a monk is without fault. The agent of this (offense) is the monk whose offerings are to be cut off, as well as the lay donor and the food itself. This (offense) is constituted as a root offense by five limbs: deliberately intending, the one whose offerings are to be cut off being a monk, except for the purpose of healing illness, the donor being a layperson, and cutting off offerings through verbal persuasion. If these limbs are not complete, then there will be faults accordingly. The preparatory offense is a misdeed: as long as one begins the preparatory act of persuading to cut off offerings, until the root offense is not reached, it is a misdeed. For each different preparatory act done towards the root offense, there is a misdeed. Not deliberately intending, but accidentally persuading to cut off offerings, is a misdeed. The one whose offerings are to be cut off not being a monk is a misdeed. The donor not being a layperson, but a household of non-Buddhists, etc., is a misdeed. Not through verbal persuasion, but through letters, handwritten notes, calculations, commands, transmissions, hints, etc., persuading to cut off offerings, is a misdeed. For things that do not belong to the five kinds of food and five kinds of drink, it is a misdeed. The preparatory of the preparatory offense is a minor misdeed: as many preparatory acts as there are, there are that many preparatory of preparatory acts, the preparatory act of a misdeed is also a misdeed, it is a minor misdeed. The situation where there is no offense is when persuading to cut off offerings for the purpose of healing illness, there is no offense. For beginners, the insane, and the mentally disturbed, (there is no offense).

and there is no falling into danger from feelings, etc. What is to be learned is that a bhikshu should learn not to rely on all forms of behavior that lead to the downfall of cutting off food in all places and at all times. Do not look for faults and quarrels. The remedy is as before. The fifty-first act of falling into the act of cutting off food has been explained. The basis for the transgression of touching fire is threefold: occurrence, enactment, and permission. The basis for the occurrence is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti. Then, many merchants from Shravasti went to the Bhagavan and, having gone, bowed their heads at the feet of the Bhagavan and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Bhagavan showed the many merchants of Shravasti the truth with a Dharma-related sermon. He made them accept it. He made them praise it. He made them rejoice greatly. In many ways, he taught them the truth with a Dharma-related sermon. He made them accept it. He made them praise it. He made them rejoice greatly, and then he did not speak. Then, the many merchants of Shravasti rejoiced and rejoiced in the Bhagavan's words, bowed their heads at the feet of the Bhagavan, and went from the Bhagavan's presence to where the venerable Ananda was, and after bowing, said: Venerable Ananda, where will the Bhagavan go after accepting the summer retreat? Wise ones, please ask the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Venerable Ananda, the Bhagavan is difficult to approach and difficult to endure, so we cannot take the stone to ask the Buddha, the Bhagavan. Venerable Ananda, how do you know by signs or teachings where the Bhagavan will go after accepting the summer retreat? Wise ones, after the Bhagavan has accepted the summer retreat, he looks and stays in the direction he wants to go, and also speaks of the praises of those directions.
