And, striking the body or anything thrown by it, or anything related to it, and the instrument of striking, even the big toe of the foot or mustard seed, or anything smaller than a blade of grass, and even touching the body. If the limbs are not complete from these, then depending on the situation, it belongs to the lower category. The downfall of combination is a misdeed, as long as the act of striking the downfall is initiated, until the actual object is not touched, it is a misdeed. For the actual object, each time a different combination is implemented, it is a misdeed. With an afflicted mind, being angry, agitated, and intimidating, without dissatisfaction itself, it is a misdeed. The object to be struck is a monk who has broken his vows, and those without desire, it is a misdeed. For nuns and male and female renunciates of this Dharma, and those who have not taken full ordination, it is a misdeed. For other renunciates and lay people who are human beings, it is a misdeed. For non-humans and animals, if struck, it belongs to the lower category. If not hit, it is a misdeed. If striking oneself, it is a misdeed. If striking pillars, walls, earth, and trees, and other things, it is a misdeed. The downfall of the combination of combination is a minor misdeed, as many combinations as there are, there are as many combinations of combination. The combination of the misdeed of combination is also a misdeed, it is a minor misdeed. There is no downfall for practicing the knowledge mantra of suppression and flogging. There is no downfall for cutting down trees and striking the ground, etc., because of need. There is no downfall for beginners, and those who are insane, and those who are mentally disturbed, and those who are afflicted by feelings. What should be learned is that a monk in all places and in all circumstances, for all actions that may lead to the downfall of striking, should not rely on them, should learn. The object to be struck is someone else, one should not strike others. One should not strike pillars. One should not strike walls, trees, and doors, etc. The method of remedy is the same as before. The downfall of striking, the forty-eighth, has been explained. // The origin of the downfall of threatening is that the Buddha Bhagavan was residing in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, the Venerable Maudgalyayana

When the Blessed One ordained and fully ordained the group of seventeen young boys born to Sarpa, including the attendants, they relied on the group of six, approached, served, and respected them. Then, Charka said: "Come here, group of seventeen, do this and this." They said: "Are you our teacher or preceptor?" He said: "No." He said, "You fools, what else do you do?" Saying that, he intended to beat one of them, and they all said, "He is going to beat us, he is going to beat us," and they fell backward and began to cry. The monks said: "Venerable Charka, why do you intend to beat the boys?" Charka said: "Venerable ones, I intended to beat one, but they all fell to the ground and cried." The monks said to the group of seventeen: "Venerable ones, if he intended to beat one of you, why did you all fall to the ground and cry?" They said: "If we didn't cry, who would beat us?" Having said that, the monks with few desires rebuked, saying: "Why are these monks angry, quarrelsome, arrogant, and dissatisfied, intending to beat a monk?" They reviled, threw stones, and spoke harsh words. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, because of this event, this origin, this circumstance, convened the monastic community of monks, and rebuked Charka, saying: "This is not the behavior of a renunciate, it is not in accordance, it is not proper, it is not in accordance with the rules, it is not something that a renunciate should do." Having fully observed the ten benefits of establishing the training, my hearers should recite the basis of training in the Vinaya like this: "Again, if a monk, being angry, quarrelsome, arrogant, and dissatisfied, intends to beat a monk, even with the palm of his hand, it is a downfall." He established the training. The place was Shravasti, the person was Charka, the affliction was the secondary affliction of anger, and the offense was intending to beat a monk. Among them, what is a monk? That is, Charka or another.
