The characteristics of this should be understood through obstacles, absence of offenses, what should be learned, and restorations. Here, the establishment of the actual offense is that a bhikshu, not traveling due to the power of an obstacle, the actual touching of those limbs of the army that are gathered or individually prepared, and disturbing the arrangement, rising up for the sake of seeing, exceeding the boundary of the vicinity, if experiencing something like seeing, then it becomes the actual basis for an offense that causes the limbs of the army to be harmed. There is no fault for a bhikshu not traveling for the sake of the eight obstacles and for pacifying harm. There is no fault for the limbs of an army that delights in battle, such as elephants, horses, chariots, and infantry. There is no fault for those limbs of the army being gathered or individual. What is called gathered is the gathering of the best of banners and the best of armies. The best of banners are of four kinds: the banner of the best of cattle, the banner of the makara, the banner of the lion, and the banner of the naga. What is called the best of armies is the fourfold division of the army: the division of elephants, the division of cavalry, the division of chariots, and the division of infantry. What is called individual is the individual armies that are arrayed and arranged. Arraying and arranging are of four kinds: like the mouth of a heap of grain, like the shape of a chariot, like the appearance of a half-moon, and like the wings of a garuda. Among these, what is called like the mouth of a heap of grain is that the army is deployed in front, the army is also deployed in the back, and the king sits in the middle. What is called like the shape of a chariot is that the army is deployed in front, the army is deployed on both sides, and the king sits in the back. What is called like the appearance of a half-moon is that the army is deployed in front, the army is also deployed in the back, the army is deployed on both sides, and the king sits in the middle. What is called like the wings of a garuda is that the army is deployed in the back, the army is deployed on both sides, and the king sits in front. There is no fault in the reality of those limbs of the army that are gathered or individual and prepared. What is called prepared is equipping elephants and so forth with armor and so on.
