They began to flee in fear and panic, and the group of six monks quickly went and stopped in front of the market crowd and said: Wise ones, why are you fleeing? They said: Holy ones, rocks have rolled down from the fortress. The group of six monks said: Poor people, it was just a little joke we played. If the rocks knew that you were so afraid, they would put ropes around your necks tomorrow morning and take you to the rocks. Don't be afraid, go back! They went to one side and sat down, dejected in their hearts. After a while, King Prasenajit of Kosala came and said: Wise ones, have you not yet arranged the battlefield? They said: Divine one, how can we win? Like this, these practitioners who wear large cloths on their heads and seek books always hinder us and say unlucky things. Who are they? They are the group of six holy ones. Wise ones, those are lazy practitioners, what harm can they do to you? Arrange the battlefield today! King Prasenajit of Kosala thought: These people will hinder me again and again. So he sent a messenger to the Blessed One to report his illness, saying: Venerable, even when these holy ones have been in the army for a long time, they mess up the formation, and they are tired of looking at the top of the flag, the top of the army, and the army on the battlefield. Alas! For the sake of compassion, could the Blessed One make it so that even when the holy ones have been in the army for a long time, they will not mess up the formation, and they will not be tired of looking at the top of the flag, the top of the army, and the army on the battlefield? Could the Blessed One establish some things for the holy ones to remember? Then, the Blessed One, having gathered the community of monks because of this event, this origin, and this occasion, rebuked the group of six monks, saying: This is not the behavior of a practitioner, it is not in accordance, it is not appropriate, it is not in accordance with the discipline.

Saying, "This is not the conduct of a renunciate," they criticized it in various ways. Because they truly saw the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, my hearers should recite the basis of learning in the Vinaya as follows: If a bhikshu stays in an army for two nights, if the deployment becomes chaotic, or if he looks at the top of the banner, or the top of the army, or if he experiences watching the battle deployment of the army, he commits a downfall. Thus, the precept was established. The place was Shravasti, the persons were the Group of Six, the affliction was untamed, the offense was staying in the army for two nights and experiencing the four components of the army. Among them, a bhikshu refers to the Group of Six or anyone else like that. Two nights means up to two nights. An army means that an army has one component, two components, three components, and four components. What is an army with one component? It is a group of elephants. What is an army with two components? It is a group of elephants and a group of cavalry. What is an army with three components? It is a group of elephants, a group of cavalry, and a group of chariots. What is an army with four components? It is a group of elephants, a group of cavalry, a group of chariots, and a group of infantry. Staying in it means staying there. If the deployment becomes chaotic means that the army's departure for battle becomes chaotic. The top of the banner refers to the four types of banners: the banner of the bull king, the banner of the makara, the banner of the lion, and the banner of the naga. The top of the army refers to the four components of the army: a group of elephants, a group of cavalry, a group of chariots, and a group of infantry. Watching the battle deployment of the army means that there are four types of deployments: like a pile of grain, like the shape of a chariot, like the shape of a half-moon, and like the shape of a garuda soaring in the sky. Committing a downfall means the same as before. So, how does one commit a downfall? Here, too, one commits a downfall through the actual act, the preparation, and the preparation of the preparation.
