Regarding what is to be eaten, there is no fault. Water and toothpicks, even if eaten without being given, there is no transgression. Except for these, for all things that are to be eaten, this transgression is established. There is no fault in not giving and taking. The definition of giving and taking is: in the obvious boundary, residing in the direction of obtaining, with the hand extended, or connected to the body, able to lift upwards, even from a non-human who has not received ordination, wanting to give, with a limb or connected to it, receiving what is given is giving and taking. Like this, having given and taken, there is no transgression. Like this, not having given and taken, this transgression is established. Among these, 'obvious' means taking directly is giving and taking, taking from the side or back is not giving and taking. 'Within the boundary' means taking by a monk residing within the boundary is giving and taking, but taking by one residing outside the boundary, separated by a door, etc., is not. 'Residing in the direction of obtaining' means taking by a monk residing in the direction where giving and taking can be obtained in any direction is giving and taking, but taking by a monk residing below from one residing on a roof, etc., is not. 'Extending the hand' means taking by a monk extending both hands is giving and taking, but not by others. The definition of these is that in five ways it is said that giving and taking is not allowed. What five? Residing outside the boundary, from an unobtainable direction, from the side, from the back, allowing giving and taking with the back of the hand facing up. In five ways it is said that giving and taking is allowed. What five? The opposite of what was said before, that's how it is said. 'Body' means receiving with the hand, etc. 'Connected to this' means receiving with a bowl, etc., connected to the hand. Receiving in these two ways is giving and taking, but other receiving is not. 'Able to lift upwards' means being able to lift upwards the food that is to be given. Receiving from there is giving and taking, but not from anything else. From one who has not received ordination

Taking what is not received from a place where one has not taken the complete vows is giving and taking, but not from a monk. The term "non-human" refers to intelligent elephants, intelligent horses, intelligent monkeys, intelligent bears, and so on. If one receives from those who can give and take, it is considered giving and taking. The term "desiring to give" means that receiving what is given by one who desires to give is giving and taking, but not what is given by one who does not desire to give or who has no authority. The term "by a limb" refers to the hand. The term "giving in connection with that" refers to giving things like balls held in the hand, and even food. The term "receiving is giving and taking" means that receiving in the manner described above for monks, and in the manner described above for giving, is giving and taking, and nothing else. To show the difference of dwelling in the place of attainment, it is said that the realm of monkeys is branches, so it is said that the giving and taking done by monkeys from those branches is dwelling in the place of attainment. To show the difference of scooping with the hand, it is said that there are five kinds of giving and taking by scooping with the hand. What are the five? Orpiment, a bed, a small bed, a cushion, and the base of a begging bowl are the fifth. The terms "body or in connection with it" and "by a limb or in connection with it" are used to show the difference, so it is said that there are five kinds of giving and taking. What are the five? Body to body, in connection with the body to the body, body to in connection with the body, in connection with the body to in connection with the body, and the ritual of placement is the fifth. How is it body to body? It means giving with the body and receiving with the body. How is it in connection with the body to the body? It means giving with the bowl and receiving with the body. How is it body to in connection with the body? It means giving with the body and receiving with the bowl. How is it in connection with the body to in connection with the body? It means giving with the bowl and receiving with the bowl. How is the ritual of placement the fifth? It means it should be blamed.
