They were all sitting inside with their heads bowed. At that time, a leper began to walk around. The great black one (Mahakala) with caste thought: If this leper eats these five foods, my food and drink will be reduced, that would not be good. Realizing this, he began to walk quickly. The Brahmin child was frightened and began to cry out: He is going to eat me! Those Brahmin children took sticks and ran quickly, saying: Holy one, you hold the mark of a sage, do you still particularly engage in such a rough and sinful act? He said: What have I done? I eat human flesh. Good people, have you seen me holding a weapon, cutting and eating meat? They said: Then why did you come here in such a hurry? Good people, I thought: If this leper eats these five foods, my food will be reduced, that would not be good. Realizing this, I came quickly. Holy one, did you eat these five foods? I do not know about eating human flesh. Like this, everywhere it was rumored that the holy great black one eats human flesh. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One thought: Whatever small faults occur are caused by the monks not being allowed to accept giving and eating. Therefore, if the monks are allowed to accept giving and eating, that would become better. Thinking this, the Blessed One said: Therefore, the monks should be allowed to accept giving and eat. There are five ways of accepting giving. Which five? Body giving to body, body giving in connection with body, body giving to body and related things, body giving in connection with body and related things, and the appropriateness of placing is the fifth. This is the fifth (section). Burning is allowed, piling it up, and if the ashes touch two or three places, then everything will be allowed. With knives and nails, then one at a time. If the laypeople distribute unevenly, then the novices should be involved in the distribution. If they are still uneven, then the monks should wash their hands and distribute by giving and receiving. However, if it is uneven, then the items to be distributed should be divided into superior, intermediate, and inferior. The duty of distributing should be performed by the Khenpo (abbot), Acharya (teacher), or those sitting in attendance. Those who have not risen from their seats should be allowed to give and receive as much as they are able. Those who can take things without rising from their seats do not need to be allowed to give and receive; those who cannot should be allowed to give and receive again. Laypeople should also be involved in the distribution, with the monks taking first and the laypeople taking later. Whatever is taken from the monks, the giving and receiving of that should be done in the same way. Whatever is taken from the laypeople should be allowed to give and receive. First the monks should give, and then the laypeople should give, and afterwards it should be distributed to the Sangha on that day. If Brahmins and faithful householders offer pots of ghee and other items to the Sangha, if needed, they should be accepted, and after accepting, they should be distributed to the Sangha. To prevent their robes from becoming oily, grass and leaves should be put inside them for distribution. If one becomes tired from holding these things, then they should be put down. When putting them down, if they are piled up, they should be placed on a base. The offered container should also be taken and put into a pool filled with water for seven or eight days. When fish, turtles, frogs, or baby crocodiles are killed, or when the fish have been completely licked clean by dogs, then suitable lime should be put in and used. It should be stated that giving and receiving is not allowed in five ways: what are the five? That is, being outside the boundary, from a direction that cannot be obtained, from the side, from behind, and giving and receiving with the palm facing down. It should be stated that giving and receiving is allowed in ten ways.
