For each such action committed, there is a minor offense. For monks who have lapsed or are without attachment, there is a penalty. If a monk perceives a place that is not within the boundary as being within the boundary, and is in doubt, there is an offense. If a monk perceives food that is shared as not being shared, and is in doubt, there is an offense. When the Sangha is the basis, and in both cases of eating together, during mealtime, one should ask if the nuns who have not arrived have come here. If one does not ask, there is an offense of eating. The transgression of an action is itself a minor offense. As many actions as there are, so are the actions of actions. The action, the action of an offense, is also an offense, an offense, a minor offense. There is no transgression for a sick monk, a working monk, a monk on the road, or a monk who has boarded a boat. There is no transgression for monks in places with individually designated food. There is no transgression when the Sangha is not fully assembled, when three eat and one works, when three have taken full ordination and one has not. There is no transgression for monks who eat in the Sangha's fundamental dwelling place, but do not eat together with those who have gathered separately. There is no transgression outside the boundary. There is no transgression for those who eat in the Sangha's fundamental dwelling place but have not gathered separately. There is no transgression at a large gathering. There is no transgression for the food of a mendicant. There is no transgression for distributing food, even a handful of salt or an ounce of herbs, or any small amount of food offered to anyone eating in the fundamental dwelling place or eating together. There is no transgression in knowing this. There is no transgression for food that is not suitable for the time, such as food suitable for a certain time, or for food that is not suitable. There is no transgression if one has not eaten or swallowed down the throat. There is no transgression for a beginner, a madman, one who is mentally disturbed, or one who is afflicted by feelings. What should be learned is that a monk should not rely on any action that leads to transgression of eating together in all places and at all times. Whether the Sangha is the basis or eating together, one should ask each other at mealtime whether those people have come here.
