Therefore, the making of an evil deed is also a subtle evil deed. Not falling means that not abandoning food does not cause one to fall. Making leftover food also does not cause one to fall. Knowing this does not cause one to fall. Non-seasonal food, which is allowed in season, seven days, for life, and all times, does not cause one to fall. Not eating also does not cause one to fall. Beginners, madmen, those with disturbed minds, and those afflicted by feelings do not fall. What should be learned is that a bhikkhu should not rely on any of the ways that lead to the downfall of eating a single meal in all places and at all times. One should learn to eat a single meal. One should learn to eat as much as is enough without abandoning food. One should sit between meals. Between five kinds of hard food and five kinds of soft food, even with a little salt or alcohol, one should not stop with a little giving and receiving between meals. If a bhikkhu has eaten, abandoned, completely finished, and completely ended his meal, and then finds hard or soft food and wants to eat it, he should think of it as leftover food and then eat it. The term "returning" means as before. The thirty-fourth downfall of eating a single meal has been explained. The four things that cause the downfall of abandoning food are: the Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in the Jeta Grove in Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. In Shravasti, there was a householder who took a wife from the same clan, and he played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness. When he was old, his relatives diminished, his wealth diminished, and his enjoyment diminished, so he said to his wife, "Good woman, I cannot seek wealth in my old age, I want to go forth." The king's son should also do the same. He went to Jeta Grove and asked a bhikkhu to ordain him. He led him to the place where the acharya abandoned and meditated in the forest. After he had ordained and received the full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, he entrusted him to that bhikkhu.

gave. That monk had the old man recite and taught him, but the old man was forgetful and repeatedly made mistakes, so he made the old man squat in front of him and made him confess his sins. The old man thought: 'I am always made to squat in front of me by this teacher to confess my sins, what can I do to make him squat in front of me and confess his sins?' A householder invited the Buddha and other monks to another house for a meal offering. The Buddha and other monks went, and after the Blessed One had enjoyed the meal offering, he began to teach the Dharma to the householder. That monk took the old man to the householder's house, and the householder prepared food for the two of them, and the two of them declined, saying that we had already eaten. The householder said: 'Please share it and leave the rest.' The two of them accepted and went from there to Jeta Grove. That monk went to fetch water, and let the old man leave the remaining food. The old man left the portion of pus, but did not leave the monk's portion, and made him eat it, and then said below: 'You ate the food that was not left, you have broken the precepts.' The monk said: 'Old man, I will not confess my sins, in this way you yourself will break the precepts.' He told the monks about this. The monks rebuked: 'Why do you monks with few desires, knowing that you have already eaten and declined, still look for opportunities to make this monk commit a mistake?' Because of this, they insulted him, saying: 'This virtuous person eats this, drinks that, and uses the power of time to increase the food that has not been left.' They insulted, slandered, and rebuked him. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, in response to this event, this origin, and this situation, convened the monastic community of monks.

That. Because of harming that old monk, (thinking) it is not the conduct of a śrāmaṇa, not in accordance, not proper, not in accordance with the rules, that is not what a renunciant should do, and scolding in various ways. The Blessed One fully discerned the ten benefits of establishing the training, therefore my śrāvaka disciples should recite the root of the Vinaya in this way: Furthermore, if any monk knowingly seeks an opportunity with regard to food that a monk has already eaten and discarded, thinking that he must somehow make this monk commit a fault, and for that reason says, "This venerable one, eat this, eat that," if he causes the unabandoned food and drink to be consumed repeatedly, then he commits a downfall. The Blessed One thus established the training. The place was Śrāvastī, the person was an old monk, the affliction was committing a sin, and the offense was knowingly causing the unabandoned food and drink to be consumed repeatedly with regard to food that a monk had already eaten and discarded. Among them, "any monk" refers to one who belongs to this Dharma. "Knowingly" means knowing oneself or being informed by others. "Monk" refers to one who belongs to this Dharma. "With regard to food that a monk has already eaten and discarded" means having completely finished and reached the end. "Seeking an opportunity" means looking for flaws. "Thinking that he must somehow make this monk commit a fault" means thinking that he must somehow cause this monk to commit a downfall. "For that reason" means not for other reasons. "This venerable one, eat this, eat that" refers to food and drink. "Unabandoned" means not remaining, not abandoned, not completely given up. "Food and drink" refers to the five kinds of food and the five kinds of drink. "Consumed repeatedly" means consuming again and again. "Commits a downfall" is as previously stated. So, how is a downfall constituted? Here, one must also understand the definition of this place through the main action, the preparatory action, the establishment of the downfall through the preparatory action of the preparatory action, the absence of downfall, the place of learning, and repentance. Among them, the establishment of the downfall of the main action here is: a monk knowingly, with regard to food that a monk has already eaten and discarded, unabandoned...
