Having observed the fast, as long as the monks are hungry, he will not eat anything himself. Then, when the time came for that householder to observe the fast, he sent someone to the monastery to invite the hungry monks. At that time, a householder invited the monks, including the Buddha, to another house. Not a single monk was left in the monastery, so that householder did not send anyone (to invite the monks). From the place where the monks, including the Buddha, were invited, someone was sent to invite the hungry monks, but they did not come because they had already eaten there. Then, someone was sent to say the householder's words: Please come over to use the umbrella to shield from the sun, offer food, and offer a large piece of cloth, please say so. When they were invited to receive the food of alms, the monks said: We have given up. They did not come, and that householder said: I have not offered food to the hungry monks, so he fasted. His neighbors then slandered, saying: These Shakyaputra ascetics, even if given food, will not eat it, and this householder fasted because the monks did not eat the food. They reviled, mocked, and blamed. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: Since this is the case, except for the time of alms giving. After that, the Blessed One praised the desire to learn the precepts, respect the precepts, and reduce the requisites of the precepts, and taught the monks with the Dharma that was in accordance with this, mostly related to this, and possessed this merit. The Blessed One instructed the monks: Monks, since this is the case, the previous rule is restrictive, but this is fundamental. My Shravaka disciples should declare the basis for learning the precepts in this way: If one eats repeatedly, except for the prescribed time, one will commit a downfall. The so-called time is: when one is sick, when one is working, when one is traveling, when one is giving alms, these are the prescribed times. The Blessed One thus permitted. The place is Spongjed and Shravasti. The person is the one who holds this Dharma. There is no affliction or fault. The so-called eating repeatedly means eating repeatedly. Except for the prescribed time.

That which is called "time" is the establishment. That which is called "falling crime" is burning, boiling, and causing to fall in the hells of sentient beings, animals, hungry ghosts, evil destinies, evil paths, and places of falling. Furthermore, if this falling crime is not confessed and not individually confessed, it will obstruct virtuous dharmas, therefore it is called "falling crime." Among them, the so-called "time" is: the time of being sick, for example, when a bhikkhu cannot live on one meal. The so-called "time of work" is: for example, when a bhikkhu works for the Sangha or a stupa, slightly sweeping the floor or stacking bricks. The so-called "time of the road" is: for example, when a bhikkhu walks one yojana or half a yojana and then returns. The so-called "time of giving clothes" is when a small or large piece of cloth is obtained. The so-called "that is the time" is when the basis of learning is established, that is the time of permission. So, how does a falling crime arise? Here, too, the characteristics of this place should be understood through the establishment of falling crimes, non-falling crimes, things to be learned, and remedies by means of the main action, the preparatory action, and the preparatory action of the preparatory action. Among them, here the establishment of the main action of falling crime is: a bhikkhu who is not sick, has not worked, and has not traveled, is invited by different patrons on the same day, simultaneously or later, to eat food not obtained from clothes or the value of clothes. If he eats the second offering after being invited to five kinds of food, then it becomes the main action of the falling crime of eating. A bhikkhu who is not sick, has not worked, and has not traveled has no fault. Here, the measure of being sick is the inability to live on one meal. The measure of work is working for the Sangha or a stupa, slightly sweeping the floor or stacking bricks. The measure of the road is walking one yojana. On the same day, being invited by different patrons simultaneously or later, eating food not obtained from clothes or the value of clothes, if one eats the second offering after being invited to five kinds of food, then there is no fault. Its establishment is that on the same day, a bhikkhu...
