Sending a message forth and sending back a message that has lost its nature, etc., are also grave offenses. When a bhikshu relies on the appearance of another being, if there is no concept of a bhikshu, it is a grave offense. For each different actual action that is done, it becomes a grave offense. The offense of instigating an action is a minor offense from the beginning of the instigation until the action is not achieved. If many bhikshus become a sangha, if they instigate for a single object that should be given, then in the continuum of each instigator, one, two, or more minor offenses of instigating an action will arise accordingly. If one bhikshu instigates for many objects that should be given, then in the continuum of each object that should be given, one, two, or more minor offenses of instigating an action will arise accordingly. For the owners of those two objects that should be given, if they are not parents, etc., whether related or unrelated to those two, it is a minor offense. The first three rounds of fighting of the first three wives, and the instigating actions of all seven rounds of fighting of the last four wives, are minor offenses. "Why don't you let this boy start a family?" "Why don't you find a place for this girl to live?" "Why doesn't this boy go to his father-in-law's house? Not take a wife?" "Why don't you bring this girl to her father-in-law's house? Not marry her off?" All such sayings are minor offenses. "Buy a woman!" Saying this, or saying "easy to obtain," are minor offenses. If one inflicts a fist, etc., on another sentient being without causing harm, it is a minor offense. Instigating for animals is a minor offense. For the offense of instigating an action, each different action that is done becomes a minor offense. There is no offense for a beginner, and for those who are insane, mentally disturbed, and afflicted by feelings, there is no offense. What should be learned is that in all places and at all times, one should learn not to rely on the minor offenses of instigating actions, as well as grave offenses, and all ways of becoming actual actions. The method of expelling will be explained below. The fifth sanghavasesa of instigating has been explained. The basis of the sanghavasesa of houses is the Buddha...

The Blessed One was dwelling at Śrāvastī, in Jeta's Grove, at Anāthapiṇḍada's monastery. The dwellings of the monks became very numerous, and some said, "This dwelling is too long," and abandoning it, they had another built. Some said, "This dwelling is too short. This is too wide. This is too narrow. This is too old. This is too weak. This is too poorly constructed," and abandoning it, they had another built. They were building dwellings and having them built, and the tasks and building increased, and they were neglecting scripture, reading, recitation, meditation, and reflection, and repeatedly engaging in tasks involving grass, wood, human labor, and vehicles, so the Brahmins and householders became critical. At that time, the venerable Mahākāśyapa was dwelling at Śrāvastī, in the eastern monastery, in the Deer Mother's mansion, and having heard that the dwellings of many monks had become very numerous, in the afternoon he arose from meditative absorption and went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he bowed his head to the Blessed One's two feet, and sat down to one side, and extensively reported those circumstances to the Blessed One, and requested the Blessed One to kindly teach the monks well about dwellings and the foundations of dwellings. The Blessed One did not say anything to the venerable Mahākāśyapa, but gave his assent. Then, the venerable Mahākāśyapa, knowing that the Blessed One had given his assent by not saying anything, departed. That very night, in order to protect the minds of those who practice the same as Brahmā, he took his alms bowl and Dharma robes and went wandering through the country. Then, the Blessed One, because of this occurrence, this basis for discussion, and this circumstance, convened the assembly of monks, and asked the monks, "Is it true that such a thing has happened?" Then, he criticized great desire, not knowing contentment, being difficult to support, and being difficult to fill, and praised having few desires, knowing contentment, being easy to support, being easy to fill, reducing, reducing possessions, the qualities of training, being beautiful, and knowing measure, and then spoke of the benefits of establishing the training.
