Having made it the object, he said, "Brahma and Indra touch the feet with the jewel of their crowns." "At the feet" refers to the feet of the Tathagata, which possess the mark of the wheel. In "Brahma and Indra," "Brahma" refers to the Great Brahma who has attained the excellent meditation of the first dhyana, obtained the king of the Brahmas, and rules over a thousand worlds. "Indra" refers to Indra, the lord of the gods of the Thirty-Three. These two are mentioned here because they are known as the lords of the earth and the lords of a thousand realms, but others should be understood in the same way. "Jewel of the crown" refers to the crown of the head, because it is the place where jewels are placed. "Touch" means that they bowed and prostrated with their heads. This shows that the supreme among those who have attained results in the world, by touching with their heads, becomes an excellent means of accomplishing the benefit of others, thereby showing the excellent perfection of the result. In this way, they show the offering of praise to the qualities of the Buddha, the Lord of Beings, by showing the way to accomplish the benefit of others. After that, having made the qualities of the Buddha, the Lord of Beings, the object, namely the excellence of the great nature of the perfection of one's own benefit, he said, "Crossing the sea of suffering, bottomless and boundless." "Suffering" refers to the five aggregates of appropriation, encompassed by birth, old age, sickness, and death. "Ocean" refers to suffering itself being like an ocean, so it is called an ocean, because it is very vast. "Bottomless" refers to the bottom without a foundation, which shows that suffering is as numerous as the ocean. "Boundless" refers to the shoreless other side, which shows that the continuation of samsara, like the ocean, will not cease. "Crossing" means having passed over, because suffering is exhausted by abandoning karma and afflictions. This shows the perfection of the excellence of the great nature of the perfection of one's own benefit by abandoning the completely afflicted nature of the arising of karma and afflictions. Having made perfect wisdom the object,

It is said, "Lord of beings." "Beings" refers to the world, because it is constantly revolving. "Lord" refers to being unparalleled, because it is the most excellent. That is the Lord of beings, the Buddha Bhagavan, who has no attachment or obstruction to all that is knowable, and has attained wisdom, therefore becoming the Lord of all beings. This shows that by understanding how many things exist and how they exist, by becoming the Lord of beings, the greatness of the perfection of one's own benefit, that is, the perfection of wisdom, is shown. Thus, they show the qualities of the Lord of beings, the Buddha Bhagavan, through the aspect of the perfection of one's own benefit, by praising, thereby showing offering. After that, in order to show offering through the act of prostration, it is said, "Prostrating with the head." "With the head" refers to prostrating with the body, which is a direct indication. "Prostrating" refers to the prostration that includes all three, body, speech, and mind. This shows that offering to the teacher is shown through the prostration of body, speech, and mind. Thus, after prostrating, what should be done? In order to show the vow to begin the Pratimoksha, it is said, "The treasury of the Jewel of Discipline of the All-Knowing One, should be explained in the midst of the assembly of the Noble Ones." This shows that by whom it is shown, what is shown, and to whom it is shown, the greatness of the Pratimoksha is explained, that is, by whom what is shown, should be explained separately in the midst of the assembly to whom it is shown. So, by whom is it shown? It is shown by the teacher. This is indicated by "All-Knowing One," the meaning of the words is the same as before. What is shown? The Pratimoksha is shown. This is indicated by "Treasury of the Jewel of Discipline." "Discipline" refers to the nature of abandoning killing and so on. "Base" refers to the word, because the meaning abides therein. "Jewel" refers to the base of discipline itself, because it is the cause of the great ones, and because it is rare, like a jewel, therefore it is a jewel. And what is that? It is the distinctions, the root, the branches, and the root texts.
