On the ground, there they saw women again and again, and those who mingled and lived with the novices of the Sangha also developed afflictions, with attachment and malice arising towards desire, and universally arising in their minds. They thought to themselves: O venerable ones, know this! The training ground established by the Blessed One for the discipline of the hearers is as follows: If a monk does not have direct knowledge or complete knowledge of the superior qualities of men, the limit, the noble ones, the special attainments, knowledge, seeing, and touching, and yet claims to know and see, if he has committed a transgression because of this and wishes to be purified, whether he is asked at another time or not, he says: O venerable ones, I said that I knew what I did not know, I said that I saw what I did not see, I spoke falsely and untruthfully. If he says this, that monk is defeated and should not live together. If this is established, wouldn't we have committed a transgression of being defeated? Thinking this, they asked the venerable Ananda. The venerable Ananda reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Ananda, if it is out of conceit, then it is not. Therefore, the former was established, but this is permitted. My hearers should recite the training ground of discipline as follows: If a monk does not have direct knowledge or complete knowledge of the superior qualities of men, the limit, the noble ones, the special attainments, knowledge, seeing, and touching, and yet claims to know and see, if he has committed a transgression because of this and wishes to be purified, whether he is asked at another time or not, he says: O venerable ones, I said that I knew what I did not know, I said that I saw what I did not see, I spoke falsely and untruthfully, if it is said to be out of conceit, then it is not, that monk is defeated and should not live together. This was established. The place is Vaishali (Vaisali, a city in northern Bihar, India today), the person is a very large number of monks, the affliction is conceit, and the fault is none. There, again, which monk is it?

It is the same as before. "Non-manifest" means that with defiled samadhi and formless realm consciousness, form is not manifest, as well as feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness. "Not completely knowing" means that with undefiled samadhi and formless realm consciousness, form itself is not completely known, as well as feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness. Alternatively, the path of non-interruption and the path of liberation are non-manifest and not completely known, in that order. Alternatively, not knowing things as they are by following them is non-manifest, and not knowing from the opposite perspective is not completely knowing. In "superior human dharma," "human dharma" refers to the dharma of humans, which is nirvana. Because only they can attain it, while Zama, hermaphrodites, and bisexuals cannot, what need is there to mention sentient beings in hell, animals, and hungry ghosts? "Superior" means that the form realm is superior to the desire realm, and the formless realm is superior to the form realm. Alternatively, "human dharma" refers to the five obscurations: desire for desire, malice, dullness, sleep, agitation, regret, and doubt. "Superior" refers to abandoning these. "End" refers to nirvana, because it is the ultimate. "Noble and attaining distinction" refers to attaining the undefiled. "Noble" refers to the Buddhas and the Buddha's Shravakas. "Attaining distinction" refers to the four fruits of the ascetic, namely the fruit of stream-enterer, the fruit of once-returner, the fruit of non-returner, and the state of Arhat. "Knowing" refers to the four knowings, namely knowing suffering, knowing the origin, knowing cessation, and knowing the path, which is wisdom that does not follow after thoughts. "Seeing" refers to the four seeings, namely seeing suffering, seeing the origin, seeing cessation, and the path.

Thonga, is the wisdom of following after. "Practicing contact" means dwelling happily in the four dhyanas, arising from samapatti, not from birth. "Non-existence" refers to the absence of its entity, that is, not manifest or impossible. "Without" means without oneself, that is, not attained. "This is known," if asked what is known, the answer is knowing suffering, origin, cessation, and path. "This is seen," if asked what is seen, the answer is seeing gods, nagas, yakshas, garudas, gandharvas, kinnaras, mahoragas, pretas, flesh-eaters, kumbhandas, corpses, and body-corpses, and saying that their sounds are heard, saying that one goes to see them, saying that they will come to see me, saying that I converse with them, saying that they will come, rejoice individually, and always dwell together. And saying that they converse with me, saying that they will come, rejoice individually, and always dwell together. I say that I meditate on twenty perceptions, four dhyanas, four immeasurables, four formless absorptions, four fruits of a recluse, six superknowledges, and eight liberations, and say that I have attained two-fold liberation without having attained it, these are also included in the sound of "this is seen" because they are like manifest. "After vowing" means after promising. "That" refers to that bhikshu. "An offense occurred" refers to that basis. "Desiring purification" means desiring to stand up. "At another time" means at another time. "It is okay to ask" means it is okay for others to talk about it.
