I should not be honored in the presence of the majority of people. Items given by non-humans should not be accepted. Items should not be accepted without being told. Toothpicks, water, clay, feces, and earth should be used freely in the residence. If a bhikkhu or śrāmaṇera is unwillingly taken away by a former wife or other relatives, they should be protected. It should be carefully checked whether rags, etc., have been completely taken away before accepting them. One should not stretch out one's body in front of farmers, etc. Nests should not be destroyed. One should not accept a part of the monastic robe in a place where one has not stayed for the summer retreat. One should not accept items from someone who has a tendency to steal but is not considered a thief. If one accepts items from someone who is considered a thief, one should cut them with a weapon with the intention of the donor, make the color worse, and then hold them. Even if this is done, if the former owner asks for it, it should be returned. One should not make comparisons in order to achieve other purposes. If a deer that has been obviously tormented by hunters enters the residence, it should be accepted, and if it dies, it should be given to them. Subsequent treatment is the same as before. Taking what is not given leads to defeat, and the second has been explained. The fourth volume of the "Extensive Commentary on the Prātimokṣa Sūtra, Collected from All the Vinayas." The origin of the defeat of killing is that the Buddha Bhagavan was staying in Śrāvastī, in the grove of lamp trees on the bank of the delightful river. At that time, the Bhagavan said to the community of monks, "Monks, meditate on the impure! If you cultivate, become accustomed to, and repeatedly practice the impure, it will produce great fruits and benefits." The Bhagavan thus taught the impure and praised the merits of practicing the impure. At that time, when the monks were practicing the impure, they felt disgusted, fearful, hesitant, and condemned the body of pus, and even drew weapons, took poison, bound themselves with ropes, and jumped off cliffs. In this way, the monks also exhorted the monks. At that time, the monks reported to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan

The Blessed One, with this event, this origin, and this circumstance, assembled the Sangha of monks, and having truly seen the ten benefits of establishing the precepts, therefore, my hearers should recite and study the basis of discipline in this way: Furthermore, any monk who, knowingly, with his own hand, takes the life of a human being or one who has taken human form, or gives a weapon to him, or seeks someone to hold a weapon for him, or encourages him to die, or even praises death, saying to him, 'Alas, man, what is the use of this sinful, impure, and ugly life of yours? Alas, man, it is better for you to die than to live!' With the desires and thoughts of his mind, in various ways, encourages him to die or praises death, and if he dies as a result, then that monk has committed a Parajika offense and is not to be associated with. Thus the precept was established, its object is abandonment, its person is many monks, its affliction is unbearable, and its fault is killing. Among these, 'any monk' is as previously explained. 'Human being' refers to one who has obtained the six faculties in the mother's womb, namely the faculties of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. 'Taken human form' refers to one who has obtained the three faculties in the mother's womb, namely the faculties of body, life, and mind. 'Knowingly' means after careful consideration. 'With his own hand' means taking his life with his own hand. 'Takes the life' means to end his life. 'Gives a weapon' means giving a sword, razor, or water knife, etc. 'Seeks someone to hold a weapon' refers to a man, woman, or hermaphrodite. 'Encourages him to die' means there are three situations of encouraging someone to die: a breaker of vows, a keeper of vows, and a sick person. For these three, encouraging them to die in the hope of obtaining alms bowls etc., if they die as a result, then a Parajika offense is committed. If he fails to cause death, then because of the previous action, a Sanghavasesa offense is committed. After encouraging him to die, the monk feels remorse and prevents him, saying, 'Do not die!' Even so, because of the previous action, a Sanghavasesa offense is committed.
