There is no fault in this. There is no fault in accepting from robbers with the mind of a donor. There is no fault in giving with secret mantras. There is no fault in taking back one's own and others' belongings taken by mice. There is no fault in taking back wild animals that have been visibly tormented by hunters and have entered a dwelling. There is no downfall for beginners, madmen, those with disturbed minds, and those afflicted by sensations. What should be learned is that a Bhikshu should not engage in any kind of action, gross action, or substantial action of taking what is not given in all places and at all times. One should learn not to go to gambling places with suspicion of winning or losing. Without prohibiting gambling oneself, and without permission, one should not take back from the gambling place one's own belongings that others have obtained with permission. One should strive to prevent others from gambling with one's own belongings. In a gambling place, one should ask those who are arranging others' utensils, "Is there no property here?" In a gambling place, if taking away property dedicated to parents and the Three Jewels is not allowed, one should praise parents and the Three Jewels. One should not allow others to determine the livelihood of others. One should not turn a non-agreeable person into an agreeable one. One should do manual labor and also do it with a virtuous mind, not for wages. If one takes another's lost property, one should not hide it for a long time. The property should be handed over to the steward monk. If the steward monk needs to know that he is a renunciate, it should be shown to the Sangha. If no owner appears, it should be hung on a pillar and left there. Do not beg for medicine for a sick person from someone who is not allowed to beg. Stolen goods from robbers and property from cemeteries, etc., along with all possessions, should not be taken as one's own by any means other than with the owner's permission. Do not forcibly seize property possessed by robbers, etc., with one's own ideas. It should be persuaded by teaching the Dharma. Even if it is close to half the price, it should be bought. A begging bowl and Dharma robes can be bought even at a high price. Property that is likely to cause unpleasantness is indeed lost.
